Our B team took on Kinvara United in their latest league encounter on Saturday and with home advantage were unlucky with a 2-1 loss. Colemanstown were on top in the first half having most of the possession. Two golden chances fell to striker Joe Finnerty but the Colemanstown man could not capitalise for his team. As Johnny Sexton for Ireland knows all about it after Sunday, these chances need to be taken as they so often end up costly to the team at full time. Kinvara on the other hand didn’t need to be told twice about taking their chances in front of goal. Just before half time a ball crossed in from the wing hit the post and the rebound fell to their poaching striker who slotted the ball comfortably past the Colemanstown keeper. The second half was very much the same with Colemanstown creating most of the chances but unable to find the net. 10 minutes into the second half Kinvara’s striker beat Colemanstown defender Damien Fahy for pace and he made no mistake to leave the score 2-0. Substitute Martin Walsh made a strong impact on his introduction and assisted Adrian Burke for Colemanstown’s only goal. The Brierfield man whipped in a perfect cross onto Burke’s head and he being a strong header of the ball made no mistake. Colemanstown piled on the pressure in the dying moments with a couple of chances. One off the head of Robert Hughes was cleared off Kinvara’s goal line and a penalty shout could have been given when Steven Broderick was up-ended in the box. Colemanstown couldn’t find that equalising goal and it just wasn’t to be for the men in green. Final score Kinvara 2, Colemanstown ‘B’1.
