Our ‘A’ team advanced to the next round of the Michael Byrne Cup with a 2-1 away victory over Oranbay. Colemanstown missed a hatful of 1st half opportunities and should easily have been 4-0 to the good but Joe Finnerty (2), Conor Feeney & John O’Brien (2) missed their clear-cut chances to leave the score nil all at the break. Oranbay scored 7 mins into the 2nd half against the run of play when a long ball broke nicely for the home side and with their striker to the fore, he controlled the ball well to find the net. Colemanstown’s equalizer came on 20 mins in a nice move involving Conor Feeney & Ritchie Lally with the latter scoring from close range. The winner came from Damian Wynne in a move originated by Garry O’Grady & Ollie Crowe in defense whose long ball broke nicely for Damian Wynne who slotted the winner from just outside the box. 2 wins on the trot now: it’s good to be back on winning ways.
Our ‘B’ team lost 1-nil at home to Foundation in their league encounter. There was little to excite fans in the opening half only for Niall Skehill & Finbar Donnellan’s efforts, both of which hit the woodwork. Foundation’s goal came with 15mins to go when their midfielder broke through the middle of the Colemanstown rearguard to slot past the hapless Kerrill Dempsey. Foundation hit the woodwork soon afterwards but Colemanstown pushed on in search of the equalizer. They were rewarded with 5 mins to go when the inrushing Sean Hardiman was fouled, he himself took the resultant penalty only to see his spot-kick saved and so too the rebounded effort. Damian Concannon & Steven Broderick’s headers were just off target in the dying minutes and so it was Foundation who just about hung on to their slender 1-nil victory.
