First up on Friday were our reserves who encountered little difficulty as they notched up a 6-3 win against Moyne Villa under lights for a 7.45pm KO. They passed and passed and passed the ball all night and scored with ease to breeze past the Headford side. The 2 Lally brothers were first on the mark, Richie & Johnny when they made no mistake as they found themselves one on one with the keeper in what were almost exact replica goals of each other. Gerry Grady proved his worth with 2 headers to complete the first half rout and leave the score 4-1 at the break. Moyne Villa scored two early 2nd half goals to pull the score back to 4-3 but 2 sublime efforts from Damo Wynne and Fearghal Flannery restored Colemanstown’s 3 goal cushion in the end. Our reserves now sit top of the table with 11 different scorers in 5 games. We wish the Moyne Villa player who broke his ankle during the game a speedy recovery while Colemanstown’s manager on the night Gerry Moran almost went with him in the ambulance such was his bad sciatica!!
Meanwhile our B team had a bad day at the office on Saturday, fielding a depleted squad due to a clash with football and other reasons as Dynamo Blues ran amok in Tuam to win 5-1. Owen Costello scored our solitary goal on his debut and looks like a great signing! We wish Rob Lally a speedy recovery after he sustained a broken wrist at training mid-week.
This morning in the beautiful Winter sunshine of 15⁰C the extra hour in bed made no difference to our A team as some legs (or should I say some heads) were still weary from the gaelic football the day before and the aftermath winning celebrations that comes with winning the North Board Cup. We got hammered 5-1 in Round 2 of the Michael Byrne Cup as the visitors Loughrea inflicted our heaviest defeat of the season to date. They ran rings around our lads in what was probably their worst game of the year so far. Johnny Lally scored our lonely goal. Hopefully our A & B teams will be back on their horses again next weekend which sees a full fixture schedule as all 5 teams are in action starting on Saturday 5th November: U13’s play Moyne Villa at home at 10.30am; U15’s vs Colga in Clarinbridge at 12.30pm; B team play Loughrea at home at 2pm; Reserves vs Corrib Celtic in Annaghdown at 2pm while on Sunday our A team play Galway Hibs in Bohermore at 11am.
With far better and more joyful news, we congratulate Jacinta & Alan Brett on the birth of their little baby girl Alia a few weeks back. We hope she brings great joy to their home.
