U12 Boys Championship 2 Colemanstown Utd A: 1 – 1 Salthill Devon B. Unbeaten table toppers Salthill Devon were the opponents for our U12A boys in Colemanstown on Saturday morning. We faced a stiff breeze and heavy mist in the first half and within 5 mins of kick off the visitors were 1 up after a long ball over the top somehow helped by the wind evaded the grasp of Phelim Flynn in goals. This early setback drove the boys on and they settled well. Phelim Flynn grew in confidence afterwards and made a few fine saves as the wind was hampering our efforts to get up the pitch. Our defence of Aaron Burke, George Costello and Ethan Monaghan were dealing well with attempted attacks while James Kilkenny was controlling midfield superbly breaking up attacks and spreading the ball out wide to George Moore and Frank Dunne on the wings. Eoghan O’Neill and Evan Molloy were starting to make end roads up front and drew a couple of saves from the Devon keeper. Our pressure was rewarded with a free kick on the edge of the box and James Kilkenny was unlucky to see his effort thunder off the crossbar and away to safety. Conor Egan and Matt Feeney replaced George Costello and Ethan Monaghan to keep things fresh at the back while Mark Shaughnessy came in for Eoghan O’Neill up front. Half time 0 – 1. Kerrill Walsh took over in goals from Phelim Flynn while Chris Burke replaced Aaron Burke in defence. Se Laffey came onto the wing for George Moore and Oisin Flannery came into midfield replacing Frank Dunne. The boys drove on well in the second half creating chance after chance but failed to test the keeper. The visitors were held to a few half chances from through balls but Kerrill Walsh was positioned well to deal with them. Our pressure and dominance finally paid off when a reintroduced Frank Dunne connected beautifully with a low cross from Se Laffey and he buried the ball to the net. The boys continued to pile on the pressure for the winner and we thought we had it with a minute to go. Oisin Flannery found Frank Dunne who danced around the centre back and struck a beautiful curled effort to the keepers left and into the net. Our joy was shortlived however as the referee called play back (a tad late in our spectators views) as the ball from Oisin Flannery had grazed off the referee on its way to Frank Dunne. 1-1 it finished on the day for a share of the spoils. Boys U14 Div 2 Bearna na Forbacha 8 – 2 Colemanstown. Our U14 boys made the trip to Barna on Saturday, but despite their best efforts, they came up against a stronger & more physical Bearna na Forbacha side, who ran out convincing winners on an 8-2 scoreline. The home team started brightly as they made it difficult for Colemanstown to settle into the game. Their dominance soon paid off, as they found the net early & continued to apply pressure throughout both halves. Colemanstown showed moments of resilience & their hard work was rewarded when Daithi Burns struck a fine goal from play. A touch of fortune also went our way which resulted in an OG to give us our second of the game. However, Bearna na Forbacha were in control for most of the game & made it a tough outing for our boys.
