Boys U16 Div1 Mervue 1 – 1 Colemanstown Utd. Mervue and Colemanstown Utd played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their midweek fixture on Wednesday. Both teams showcased their skills and determination to win the game, but neither side were able to gain a decisive advantage. The first half saw both teams create scoring opportunities. It was Mervue who broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal from a long ball, that eluded our midfield and defence, with the ball expertly dispatched past Tommy Nutley. Colemanstown Utd responded strongly and created plenty of chances for an equaliser, but they could not find the back of the net. In the second half, our lads started where they left off and continued to apply pressure and create chances. Tom Holohan, Tadhg Hart, Jamie Lally and Paddy Gavin all combined greatly trying to get back into the game, with Sean Keating and Noah McDonnell working tirelessly on the flank. Fionn Proulx, Padraig Fallon, Mike Lally and James Somers defended solidly to deal with any Mervue threats. It was midway through the second half that we were awarded a free from 30 yards. Tadhg Hart took charge and expertly dispatched it to the top corner: 1-1 and the wind in our sails. Despite our boys pushing for the win, the elusive winner never came and we had to settle for a draw in an exciting match. Unfortunately Noah McDonnell had an injury midway through the second half that required a trip to A&E, he was a thorn in Mervue’s side all evening and was really unlucky for this setback. We hope to see him back playing very soon. Match Report: Luca Lualdi.
Subs: Joshua Lualdi for Noah McDonnell, Oisin Gavin for Padraig Fallon, Daniel Booth for Fionn Proulx, Ryan Shaughnessy for Tom Holohan. Unused subs: Stephen Murphy, Gearoid Walsh.
