While the Mums and Dads of aspiring Ronaldos were soaking up the blinding Winter sunshine, our U9’s and U7’s took on Tuam Celtic at home this morning. Similar to yesterday, we fielded 2 No. teams of 7-a-side who played 2 games each.
The story with the Under 9’s : There’s loads of potential with this team with some serious class and gas! Team A: Daragh Roche, Conor Kelly, Jonah Donnellan, David Walsh, Dillon Roche, Anthony Feeney & Kalum Concannon. The powerful Anthony Feeney (it’s hard to believe this guy is only eight) scored within a few seconds of the kick off and another one in quick succession and this opened the floodgates for everyone else as Conor Kelly, Jonah Donnellan, David Walsh also got on the scoresheet. Daragh Roche continued his fine form after yesterday’s games in Tuam, and even added a penalty save today to his Goalkeeping c.v. proving there’s nothing this guy can’t do as a keeper. Kalum Concannon put in a sterling performance in defense. These lads won their first game 8-2 & second game 6-2. Thanks to Eddie Concannon for his assistance with this team.
Team B: Eoin Concannon, Thomas Mellody, Adam Cleary, Ross Lally, Cian Ruane, Nathan McGuire-Greaney, Dara Scarry. These lads roared into their first game winning 10-2 & also won their second game 4-0 as our midfield trio of Thomas Mellody, Adam Cleary & Cian Ruane showed some aggressive tackling and quick deliveries whilst also getting themselves on the scoreboard. Ross Lally, might be small in size, but can this lad play soccer, as he put in a massive gutsy performance also notching a few goals. Nathan McGuire-Greaney scored a classic and was chuffed with himself in the process. Dara Scarry was stout in his defending while only 2 goals conceded were a testament to this. Eoin Concannon, who is just overage, stood in goals by agreement but in fact had little to do. Thanks to Harry Mellody for his assistance with this team.
The story with the Under 7’s: Team A: James Feeney, Darren Moran, Josh Buckley, Cillian Roche, Aaron McGuire-Greaney, Aidan Ruane, Robert Lydon . Many of these lads were wearing a jersey for the first time and there’s nothing like playing a few games to really learn the game….. tackling, passing, dribbling and so on….. These lads put in a great all round display even though they lost both their games but that didn’t matter. Cillian Roche & Darren Moran were amongst the scorers. A big thanks to Orla McCaffrey for looking after this team.
Team B: Kyle Concannon, Ryan Concannon, Cian Cleary, Sean Kelly, Joe Carroll, Daniel Lydon. These lads also got 2 games under their belt, losing one and drawing their second. Sean Kelly, Kyle Concannon, Ryan Concannon & Joe Carroll were amongst the scorers. Both teams were particularly impressive in their teamwork and their confidence increased as the games wore on. Thanks to Andy Concannon for his assistance with this team.
