Our U19 girls turned up again with just the bare 11 players to take on the might of Corrib Celtic in the cup at home on Sunday afternoon. This was always going to be a tough ask for our young ladies. Within the first 5 mins, we went 1-0 down when a long high goal kick bounced over everybody and into the path of the striker who finished past the diving body of Nina Bujak. An exact replica goal happened 4 more times in the first half, as the ball bounced to very speedy and determined Corrib Celtic strikers on 10, 25, & 30mins and again just before half time to make it 5-0 at the break as it was all Corrib Celtic.
The 2nd half started very bright for Colemanstown who played well down the left with Lucy Kenny attacking well. Her deliveries to Leah Moran saw her draw a great save from the Corrib Celtic keeper. Super combination play on the right between sisters Saoirse and Leah Moran kept the keeper on her toes. Colemanstown’s young ladies got to the ball first and made Corrib work hard to add to their scoreline. On 80mins, they breached a tired Colemanstown defence again to make it 6-0 and with 5 mins to go, they fired into the top corner to make it 7-0. Colemanstown were resilient and attacked for the last 5 mins and never lost heart as the visitors ended with a good win. The next league game is away to Craughwell. Match report by Philip Dee
