Our U15’s opened their league account on Saturday in Cregmore with a good 2-1 win over Cregmore/Claregalway in which they showed full value for their win. They were 1-0 down after 3mins when they gave away an early scrappy goal from a penalty as up stepped their striker to make no mistake. However, from there until the end, it was all Colemanstown and in fact the home side rarely looked like winning this one such was Colemanstown’s dominance. Adam Wynne had the best of the first half chances, shuddering the crossbar at one point with a long range effort while Robert Cosgrove found himself one-on-one with the keeper but his effort was well saved. 5 mins before the break the equaliser came through a powerful shot from Alan Naughton. Thady Moran’s corner from the right was swung into the danger area, and Adam Wynne’s back pass to the better positioned Naughton who neatly lashed his effort from 12 yards. This really got our youngsters up and running as we restarted the second half in the same pressing vein. Daniel Glynn hardly had a chance to warm his gloves only for a high looping ball from a free kick which he held well while central defenders Ethan Lally & Josh Brennan & left & right backs Jason Keane & Shane Burke respectively were mostly unoccupied. Thady Moran & debutant Keith Forde had the best of the 2nd half chances with the newcomer finding himself one-on-one with the keeper on a few occasions. With just minutes to go, Thady Moran sealed the points with a great individual effort when he collected the ball in midfield and raced clear beating 5 defenders to blast to the left of the keeper from 20yards. The home side just couldn’t fashion a chance to grab a late equaliser as we held on for a well deserved win. It was a good overall squad performance with everyone playing their part for David Gilligan’s charges to start out their league campaign with 3 points.
