Colemanstown U13s 3 – 0 Renmore Colemanstown U13s booked their place in the divisional Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Renmore in Colemanstown on Tuesday evening. They now play table toppers Kilshanvey in the Cup Final scheduled for Mervue next Saturday. This will be a mammoth task but one which will certainly whet the appetite for Simon Tierney, Marty Hart , Drew Bardell and their charges. The task is expedited by the fact that the sides have not yet met in the league as both legs of the league have yet to be played.
Stunning early goals, fierce tackles and hard work rate by the entire squad is what earned the lads a place in this Div2 Cup Final. The tone of this entertaining encounter was set within the first 4 mins when Martin Mellody scored twice. James Somers and Tom Holohan worked hard on the right to set Mellody up for his first and his second a cracking free kick from 22 yards which found the top corner. Colemanstown dominated proceedings for most of the game after that but had to be on their toes for every Renmore break on the counterattack. Keeper Tommy Nutley made a name for himself on 20mins with a super diving save to the right and guessed correctly to save a dubious Renmore penalty. This lad is growing in stature, having got his finger tips to a penalty in their last outing. Whether it’s between the posts in hurling or in soccer, he’s making the stops!
Colemanstown maintained the pressure though and were well on top for large parts of the game. Tom Holohan put the game almost beyond reach before the break, after a great individual run on the right, cut in across the box & finished in a moment of magic. 3-0 Half Time.
Colemanstown dominated the second half from the off, creating a hatful of chances, but a powerful keeper stood in the way of best efforts of Tadhg Hart, Harry Tierney, Tom Holohan, Jamie Lally, Martin Mellody & James Somers who all had efforts at goal. The game plan in place allowed all players to shine. Tommy Nutley was excellent, the defending by Joe Carroll, Jamie Nutley, Conor Keating and Tadhg Bardell was largely great as they inspired great confidence while the midfield partnership Noah McDonald, Harry Tierney & James Somers enjoyed time in the ascendancy with Somers noted to be very timely in his tackles down the wing. Strikers Martin Mellody, Tadhg Hart & Tom Holohan posed a huge threat with their lightening pace and directness and mustered up loads of chances that this game could have finished with 10 goals under their belt only for a splendid Renmore custodian. Stephen Murphy on the right wing; Aidan Ruane on the left wing, Sean Keating at centre back & Michael Lally at right back all played their part too. 3-0 it finished but more importantly they won the right to a Cup Final place in Mervue on Sat June 4th @ 10:30 KO as we look forward to the lads giving it 100%.
