U13 Girls Div1: Oughterard 2 – 1 Colemanstown
Our U13 Girls lost 2-1 st home to Oughterard on Saturday. This was a ding dong battle between two evenly matched teams who went toe to toe for the entire game in tough playing conditions. Emma Collins & Tia Loughnane worked hard all through & created early chances which were either saved or squandered. 20mins into the first half, the breakthrough was made but by the travelling side. A quick break through the middle saw the Oughterard player nip between our defenders and showed great composure to slot home the opening goal leaving Lucy Butler in goals with no chance. It was tit for tat for the remainder of the 1st half as the players welcomed half time, due in great part to the lovely sunshine & warm humid playing conditions.
10mins into the 2nd half, Colemanstown found a well deserved equaliser. A corner whipped in by Maddie Rohan was cleared, fell nicely for Grace Connolly whose half volley from 25 yards was lobbed perfectly over the keeper to restore parity at 1-1 . Colemanstown piled on the pressure for the next 10mins as chances fell to Lisa Curran up front, who excelled all through, posing a constant threat. Then against the run of play and with 10mins left, Oughterard found what proved to be the winner in a similar goal to their first. Another burst through the middle by their striker saw her unleash an unstoppable shot from 20 yards which wrong footed Lucy Butler in goals.
Our defence line of Niamh Naughton, Aoife Walsh, Grace Connolly & Tia Loughnane dealt well with free kicks, long throws & good corners for the remainder of the game. In midfield, Shauna McDonagh, Emma Collins, Maddie Rohan & Tara Dillon anchored that area throughout the game but although Aoife Morris, Lisa Curran & Ailbhe Burke forced good chances for the entire game, our girls just couldn’t get the breakthrough to force a draw.
Squad: Lucy Butler, Niamh Naughton, Aoife Walsh, Grace Connolly, Tia Loughnane, Shauna McDonagh, Emma Collins, Maddie Rohan, Tara Dillon, Aoife Morris, Lisa Curran, Ailbhe Burke.
U14Girls Div 1: Colemanstown 3 – 0 St Bernards.
Our U14 girls won their first competitive match under the management quartet of Michelle Doyle, Linda Phillips, Sandra King & Paul O’Connor on Friday evening with a 3-0 home victory over neighbours St Bernards thanks to two goals by Lillie Kirby and a great individual goal from Chloe Flynn.
Lillie Kirby opened her account after a great passage of play involving Chloe Flynn, Roisin Ruane & finished by Kirby. With Colemanstown camped in Bernard’s half of the field for 90% of the game, they continued to dominate as our defense line of Roisin O’Dea, Aisling Ruane, Leah O’Connor & Sophie Kelly were rarely troubled. Chloe Flynn added a 2nd before the break as Colemanstown created a hatful of chances but met with a solid St Bernard’s keeper. The score would easily have been far more, only for her heroics between the posts.
Colemanstown’s 3rd goal came with 20mins left when a super Lille Kirby strike from distance spectacularly found the net to leave the final score at 3-0. Fridays win was also significant for the way Catherine Irwin, Roisin Keague, Rachel Kennedy, Liliana King & Eimear Schwitalla slotted into their anchor roles in midfield & up front with Rachel Kennedy & Roisin Keague also being presented with scoring opportunities. Final score: Colemanstown 3 – 0 St Bernard’s.
Squad: Ruby Lynch, Roisin O’Dea, Aisling Ruane, Leah O’Connor, Sophie Kelly, Lillie Kirby, Roisin Ruane, Catherine Irwin, Roisin Keague, Chloe Flynn, Rachel Kennedy, Liliana King, Eimear Schwitalla.
