Colemanstown U13s 2 – 0 Galway Bohs Div2
Following a break of 8 weeks from competitive action, our U13 boys took to the pitch in Colemanstown on Saturday morning against an unbeaten Galway Bohs side. For the 1st ten mins of play Bohs showed their dominance but once the home side settled & started putting passes together they got into their stride. Liam O’Connor in fefence linked up well with Finian Walsh. Daniel Ruane held the ball well upfront and with great support from Daithi Burns tormented the away side and with 15 mins in or so Daithi Burns lobbed the keeper for the 1st goal of 2024 for this side. Aidan Quinn’s superior accurate kick-outs led to some great passages of play & the boys started to enjoy the game with Jack Barrett & Dermot Parker giving the Bohs midfield plenty of work to do. Darragh Blake, David Barrett, Oisin Nugent as well as Liam O’Connor were solid in defence all through and kept the lively Bohs attack quiet. The 2nd goal arrived after a crossfield pass when Dermot Parker found Owen Hillary on the right who made no mistake drilling to the net to make it 2.0 at the break. The 2nd half saw plenty of sustained pressure from the city side but the boys dug deep & defended well. With 15 mins left on the clock the bench was emptied with Gearoid Griffin, Conal McDonagh, Thomas Kennedy, Mikey Nutley & Sean Forde all giving tired legs a well-earned break. 2-0 it finished as the lads held out for a clean sheet thanks to an overall squad effort. This was a great start to the New year with a very solid team performance which leaves Alan Walsh’s charges in a strong position in the league. Match report by Alan Walsh
Meanwhile, our U13 Girls lost 1-0 to Corofin in the Championship/ Div 1 Cup. This was a super game against the Championship league leaders; a game which Colemanstown should have at the very least brought to extra time but in the end rued many chances in front of goal.
Our U12B Girls were also extremely unfortunate to lose to table toppers and neighbours Kiltulla. An OG for Kiltulla was enough for them to stay unbeaten in the league.
Our depleted U17 Boys team put in a gallant effort away against Mervue to lose 6-1. Shane Quirke, a welcome addition back to the team, was the Colemanstown goalscorer.
Our U15 Boys lost 7-2 to league leaders MacDara in Kiltulla astro on Sunday. Although the lads battled hard, MacDara were a far more superior outfit. Sean Keating & Harry Tierney provided the Colemanstown scores.
