Colemanstown U12’s inflicted a bruising defeat on Athenry in their league opener played at home yesterday morning. It did not take long for Colemanstown whose superior physical strength showed from the off as they got into their stride quickly and were 4-0 up after 12mins with a brace apiece from Jonah Donnellan and Killian Hughes. Donnellan and Hughes added a further goal apiece before the break as well as Dylan Murphy who also scored three first half goals ensuring that all three claimed a hat-trick before the interval. Cian Burke took advantage as the ball bounced nicely for him in the box and he poked past the keeper.
Colemanstown’s managerial trio reshuffled the team at half time with the introduction of Sean Connolly, Ella Carroll, Shane Kenny, Cathal Hynes & Cathal Kennedy to ensure the entire squad received plenty of playing time. Cathal Kennedy ran through the middle before finishing well 13 mins into the 2nd half while Dylan Murphy added 2 more, the pick of the goals a powering header from a Cathal Kennedy corner; he punched the air with pride, such was his delight. The match ball though certainly belonged to Dylan Murphy who turned it up a notch or two with 5 goals on the day.
This may have been a bit of a stroll for Colemanstown but I’m sure there will be more exhausting tests ahead for these U12’s. Thanks to the managerial trio of Jayo Finn, Edo Flannery and Gary Lally, the latter who came decked out with his white shirt and blazer and 4 gear bags in his car boot – one for hurling, football, soccer and the smallest one of all; the overnight bag which held deodorant, a toothbrush and a few cans of red bull!!
Squad: Fionn Flattery, Niamh Kennedy, Diarmuid Ryan, Ross Lally, David Walsh, Jonah Donnellan, Cian Burke, Killian Hughes, Dylan Murphy, Sean Connolly, Ella Carroll, Shane Kenny, Cathal Hynes & Cathal Kennedy.
