Jason Finn had returned from his mini sojourn to see his U12’s continue the weekends winning form for all our teams scheduled for action when they beat Oranmore/ Maree 2-0 in the Divisional Cup in Maree today. Only for an Oranmore keeper operating at the peak of his powers it could have been much more. Colemanstown scored on their first clear cut attack as Paddy Flynn flicked on a ball for Killian Hughes to run on to and as he was upended in the box, the ref immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Up stepped Jonah Donnellan in Pogba-like fashion and he slammed home the opener to the far right of the keeper. On 20mins Killian Hughes sent in an inviting cross where David Walsh and Paddy Flynn were queuing up to pull the trigger but the ball went tamelessly wide. 4mins later, a triple effort at goal by Colemanstown from David Walsh, Killy Hughes & Ross Lally saw the keeper turn the ball out for a corner which was whipped in by Walsh, while the hosts clearance fell to Jonah Donnellan whose drive from distance was superbly saved by the stretching keeper. Killian Hughes was next to test him but again he was on top of his game keeping his net intact which brought the game to half time: 1-0 to Colemanstown.
3mins after the restart David Walsh drew another save while Dylan Murphy, Jonah Donnellan & Cian Burke saw their efforts from distance saved and Killian Hughes’ glancing header would have been sublime only he too was denied by the keeper. Midway through the 2nd half, the keeper was finally breached as Ross Lally & Daniel Melia were involved in the build-up, found Killy Hughes whose low hard drill finally flew in by the left post as he was unable to stretch far enough to get his finger tips to it. It was no more than he and Colemanstown deserved as they were by far the superior team and certainly the margin would have been much greater only for the exceptional goal keeping on display by the Oranmore keeper. Thanks to Oranmore/ Maree for facilitating the game to be played on their grounds.
Squad: Fionn Flattery, Ross Lally, Diarmuid Ryan, Cathal Kennedy, Cian Burke, Jonah Donnellan, Killian Hughes, David Walsh, Patrick Flynn, Shane Kenny, Dylan Murphy, Shane Kenny, Niamh Kennedy, Ella Carroll, Daniel Melia, Sean Connolly.
U12’s are in action again next weekend, this time in the league at home to East Utd, 12.30pm KO.
Our reserve team also put in a good display yesterday beating table toppers West Utd 3-1 in South Park. Goals from Shane Lally, Jarlath Healy & Robbie Lally were enough to see them grab all 3 points with open arms.
