Colemanstown U12B girls played their first away match in Abbeyknockmoy on Sunday 11th July 2021 against St Bernard’s for a successive 2nd week under torrential rain conditions. On the trek uphill to the pitch Megan De Vos was named captain and the team came face to face with all 22 girls from the St Bernard’s Division 3 team.
The first half seen an onslaught by St Bernard’s on the Colemanstown goal. This was another skilled strong teamwork from defence trio Tara Lally, Sophie Kelly and Catherine Irwin who stopped and deflected numerous attempts on goal. Keeper Ruby Lynch had some amazing saves however even with best efforts 5 goals were scored entering the second half 5-0 to St Bernard’s.
The 2nd half seen a domination by the Colemanstown team. Excellent teamwork was witnessed by midfielders Lilianna King, Roisin O Dea, Aoife Walsh and Emma Collins who had great passing and tackling to support the strikeforce of Lilly Kelly, Megan De Vos and Roisin Keague attempting to break through the very strong defence of St Bernard’s. Emma Collins seemed to be everywhere in the second half looking for possession of the ball or passing out to other players in better scoring positions. Aoife Walsh was a constant plague to the goalie having numerous attempts on goal and finally she scored in the 44th minute. Liliana King had an amazing solo run to goal in the 55th minute just missing out by a goalie save.
The rain started to subside minutes before the ref finally blew his whistle for the end of the match. 5-1 it ended to a very strong St Bernard’s side. No goals were scored by St Bernard’s in the 2nd half due to the amazing teamwork of the entire Colemanstown U12B team.
