Colemanstown U12A girls played Craughwell away on June 27th. It was a very warm sunny Sunday which made playing conditions very difficult. Captain Grace Mitchell took up full back position, a position that was new to her but Grace rose to the occasion and did a fabulous job in defence. Missing our regular keeper Aisling Ruane and Roisin Ruane served as stand in keepers on the day…They both played brilliantly. Well done girls.
Midfielders Blaithin Keane, Eva Molloy and Lily Kirby took possession of the ball first off. There was great teamwork and communication between all players. Both teams started off strong but Craughwell soon got the upper hand scoring two goals early on. Not to be defeated Colemanstown stood their ground with some excellent defending by Anna Barrett, Grace Mitchell and Grace Roche. Substitutes Della McNamara and Aoibhin Thompson came on & played brilliantly and made a significant impact also. The Colemanstown girls kept working away passing the ball down to the strikers, Chloe Flynn and Rachel Kennedy both having several attempts on goal. Blaithin Keane scored a fabulous goal just before half time. The pressure from Craughwell was immense. Half time was welcomed by all given that playing conditions were very difficult in the sweltering heat.
The girls settled well into their positions in the second half. They played very well against a very capable, strong and solid Craughwell. Their hard work and perseverance saw the Colemanstown girls intercept, control and clear numerous balls back up to midfield with several attempts on goal by Eva Molloy, Lily Kirby and Chloe Flynn. Chloe scored a fabulous goal in second half. Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way in the end, 7-2 final score. We may not have won the match but the girls were outstanding in their performance. They enjoyed themselves, got together and are making great friendships and that is even more important than a winning result. Well Done everyone. Report by Michelle Doyle
