Clash of the Titans this week as our U6’s, U8’s & U10’s took on neighbours St. Bernards in a mini blitz in Abbeyknockmoy on Sunday morning. The last time these youngsters played there were many goals and it was much the same this time. The morning finished with a mixed bag of results; in fact a result of every kind – a win, a draw & a loss! The under 10’s under the management of Stephen Concannon showed great combination play and showed too that they meant business but were narrowly defeated 4-3 with goals from Michael Flattery, Eoin Concannon & Josh McGuire Greaney who converted from the penalty spot. Best for the u10’s were the towering Sean Hansberry, Michael Flattery, Ronan Hynes, Darragh Roche, & the never tiring Clara Keane. Panel: Mark Donnellan, Darragh Roche, Clara Keane, Eoin Concannon, Michael Flattery, Ronan Hynes, Sean Hansberry, Anthony Feeney, Josh McGuire Greaney, Orin Burke & Conor Moran who had to retire early due to injury.
Our under 8’s managed by Eddie Mitchell for the day were epic in their display crushing St. Bernards by a cricket score. These young lads enjoyed every minute of the game standing up to some strong Bernards attackers. Jonah Donnellan & Harry Mitchell marshalled midfield and did some fantastic shooting between them. This u8 team is making great progress in the right direction thanks to the work put in by Andy & Eddie Concannon. The team maintained their structure and shape for the entire game and worked tirelessly to the end. Best for the u8’s on the day were: Harry Mitchell, David Walsh, Adam Cleary & Jonah Donnellan. Scorers: Jonah Donnellan, Harry Mitchell, Thomas Mellody, Adam Cleary, Michael Warde, Fionn Flattery & David Walsh. Panel: Michael Warde, Cian Ruane, Thomas Mellody, Jonah Donnellan, Harry Mitchell, Adam Cleary, Cian McHugh, David Walsh, Jack Jordan, Fionn Flattery & Eoin Keague. Thanks to Eddie Mitchell for his guidance on the day.
Our under 6’s, under the stewardship of Andy Concannon played a high scoring draw and showed great awareness at this young age. They linked up well together and rounded off a great performance with plenty of goals, nice passing and great defensive work from everyone in the team. Cian Burke bagged a whopping 5 goals, Ross Lally covered every blade of grass and struck 4 goals & Kyle Concannon also got on the scoresheet with a classic. This was their first ‘big’ game and there was plenty of excitement to show for it. All in all, a very pleasant morning of football as the future looks good for the boys in green! Thanks to St. Bernards for hosting the games and who also provided medals for all participants.
