The B team made a decent start to their league campaign away to Loughrea yesterday, thanks in the main to Sean Walsh who showed an awesome display of firepower as he laid on a masterclass of goals to clock a hattrick and a well deserved share of the spoils for his team. Colemanstown went 1-0 up after 10mins as Ronan Skehill sent a ball down the left wing to brother Niall who cut in across the danger area before passing to the unmarked Walsh who buried to the net from 15yards. However, Loughrea got 2 before the break, both originating from set pieces; the equaliser from a corner and their second came from a wonderful free kick which was powerfully headed home. In fact, Loughrea went 3-1 up 12mins after the restart, their third goal again originating from a corner which was splendidly volleyed home to leave Adrian Burke with no chance in goals. However, no B team game is complete without a piece of breathtaking magic from Ronaldo himself, Sean Walsh, who immediately from the tip off, did well to notice the keeper off his line and chip him from the half way line. There was no time to snooze at this stage as a breathtaking finish was in store. Colemanstown’s management team of Ross Sullivan and Barry Forde juggled things at the back, redeploying young Jack Kennedy to his natural centre back berth and pushing everyone forward in search of the equaliser. The introduction of Martin Walsh, Mark Kirby and Gearoid Fahy also reaped dividends as they chased everything and played like terriers. The B teams supporters were given another piece for their DVD compilation when Sean Walsh claimed his hattrick with 10mins to go. Martin Walsh’s free kick in defence was only partially cleared and fell perfectly for Walsh who left the keeper stranded from the edge of the 18′ box. 3-3 it finished and a great start to the season. Padraig Quirke excelled in the middle of the park, Steven Broderick and Jack Kennedy (in the 2nd half) were commanding at centre back while stand-in keeper Adrian Burke was solid in goals . A great result on the first outing, roll on next week….
