The season recommenced with a bang this week with a heavy fixture schedule to contend with. Our U13B boys team were lucky to be drawn out of a hat by the Galway FA to kick start games in Eamon Decay Park on Monday June 7th after a long break due to the Covid lockdown, something we’re all too familiar with at this stage. They were up against Corofin B and the players experienced all that goes with a match day in Galway’s top soccer grounds, Eamon Deacy Park. Unfortunately our lads fell to a 6-2 defeat but that certainly didn’t detract from the occasion. Aaron Lindsay Bane scored the first and also hit the woodwork while Harry Tierney netted the second.
Our U15s sprung from the blocks on Tuesday evening for their encounter with Corrib Celtic at home. Two quick fire goals from Tommy Mellody put Colemanstown on the front foot – one an excellent strike from outside the box. The visitors responded well in the 2nd half & pulled one back. Further pressure from the Annaghdown side saw the equaliser arrive when a cross deceived everyone and found the bottom corner of the net. Colemanstown, however showed great character & regained control of the game. Harry Mitchell beat the offside trap & scored a fantasy goal with his right foot after rounding the keeper. Colemanstown held on despite continuous pressure from the visitors and on the balance of play probably shaded the 3 points.
Our Premier Ladies received a walkover on Wednesday evening as City side East Utd were unable to field. Colemanstown ladies received the 3 match points as a result.
Our U13A team took on Carraroe side McDara on Thursday evening at home. A fantastic game of sport from two evenly balanced teams saw the visitors pip us for the win, although the 2-4 scoreline may suggest otherwise. Cillian Roche scored from the penalty spot & Matthew Keane scored the 2nd.
A busy weekend is also in store as the A team take on Mervue Utd B at home on Saturday KO 2pm; U12s play Renmore away on Sat. 10:30am KO; Ladies play Dunmore away on Sun – 1pm KO; U12 Girls take on Loughrea in Loughrea on Sun 10am KO.
