Colemanstown A team battled to earn a 1-0 league victory over Loughrea in Kiltullagh Astro on Sunday last. In tough windy conditions both teams had chances although not too many decent ones. Gareth Lally & Padraig Quirke worked hard in the engine room with Mossy Carr, Niall Gelston & Kerrill Hardiman pushing towards goal on every opportunity.
Both teams struggled to carve out chances in both halves although Tomas Flannery had a few chances, most notably from a free kick & Ryan Noone fired over shortly after his introduction while Alan Junior did everything in his power at the furthest end.
It was a close affair right to the death until Flan’s 90th minute header finally broke Loughrea’s brave resistance to give Colemanstown a precious win in their quest to spring themselves from the bottom four. Until then it seemed Loughrea had withstood the pressure imposed by Colemanstown towards the end of the game and would escape with a priceless point to help them also in their relegation battle.
Loughrea forced a corner in added time which was thankfully cleared by a vigilant Colemanstown defence, led admirably all day by Richie Lally & Sean Hardiman. Desperate for points Colemanstown held out well for a precious but hard earned 3 points in tough conditions.
Squad: Alan Junior Finn, Damien Wynne, Sean Hardiman, Richie Lally, Geordan Kenny, Padraig Quirke, Niall Gelston, Kerrill Hardiman, Mossy Carr, Gareth Lally, Tomas Flannery, Ryan Noone, Dean Reilly, Ronan Carr, Fionn O’Connor.
Meanwhile it rained goals at both ends for Gareth & Johnny Lally & our U16s in their league game on Sunday against Kiltullagh Pioneers on Kiltullagh’s fine Astro. It was the goal scorers who took the plaudits with Harry Mitchell (4), Ciaran Mulhern (4) & Tommy Mellody (3) fighting over the match ball in a 11-4 thumping. This game got the day off to a lively start and set the tone for our A team.
