Ladies RDFL Pre Season Competition vs Cam Dysart

Colemanstown Ladies got their pre season friendly tournament off to a great start on Monday evening with a 2-2 draw away to Cam Dysart. They broke new ground as it was the first time our ladies team have played in the Roscommon & District League and this pre season friendly has been organised to get more playing time and set a feeler for ladies football in general within the RDFL.

Colemanstown started the stronger team and played great passing football particularly in midfield where Lucy Kenny was causing terrible trouble up and down the left wing. She finally she got her just reward 15 mins into the game when the quick thinking Laura Parker set Lucy Kenny free into the box and she finished a smashing shot into the net.

Colemanstown then burst into life and looked hungry for more. On the half hour mark Ashley Roberts made a super stop, was quickly up off the ground with a huge kick out which Sarah Kearney ran onto and with massive strides she stuck the ball with aplomb into the bottom corner to make it 2 – 0 by half time.

Sinead McManus had a stand out first half tackling for everything and winning lots of ball in midfield while young Lucy Kenny was terrorising the Dysart defence. Claire Keane was impressive at right back and Laura Parker gave a plentiful supply of through ball to set Sarah Kearney and Sinead McManus. This new makeshift team united well for a super first half.

The second half saw the Colemanstown ladies start more sluggish and Cam Dysart looked like they found a second wind as they fought like lions for every ball. 10 mins into the half Colemanstown were caught off guard by a long shot from almost 30 yards which sailed in over Ashley Roberts head for a wonder strike. Colemanstown ladies rallied and got back into it after this set back with great attempts on goal from Rachel O’Brien with one effort almost lobbing the keeper from distance but she managed to get a hand to it to paw away the danger.

Due to an injury to Amy Kenny and Sarah Kearney, the versatile Laura Parker found herself up front and had a super 10 mins making threatening runs and managed a few shots on goal but the hosts keeper was in fine form. At this stage Cam Dysart were still fighting for everything. They attacked once more and from from a long range high lobbing ball, Ashley Roberts was evaded as the shot lobbed for Cam Dysart to equalise at 2-2. The last 5 mins totally belonged to Colemanstown as the pressurised for a winner but despite the best efforts of Rachel O’Brien and Lucy Kenny they failed to find a winner. It was a super game to watch and great to see our U17 girls slot in so well. I’m sure for them it was great to be in action with their team coach Laura Parker. Well done to Philip Dee & Pat Delaneys charges who now play Ballinasloe Town in Colemanstown on Monday evening. 7:45KO. Match report by Philip Dee.
