U17s vs Barna/ Furbo
Our U17 Girls lined out in their 2nd last game of 2020 against Bearna na Forbacha away in Furbo on Sunday. Both teams started strong with brilliant chances created by both teams from the get go. The defensive line of Lucy Kenny, Shauna Hynes, Ruth Murphy and Sina Schwitalla denied all early chances for Barna/ Furbo and were outstanding in trying to keep the Barna talent out! Our amazing goalkeeper Nina Bujak was on fire all day and the oohhs and aaahhhs from both sets of supporters was fantastic as Nina really did put in a masterclass performance. At one point she made 3 successive saves making sure the defence could get the ball out of the box! The midfield partnership of Lauren Keary, Leah Moran , Sinead McManus and Ailish Molloy worked tirelessly and were fantastic running the ball up the lines to the strikers. Leah Moran got her name on the score sheet once more when she calmly stepped up to a free just outside the box and struck it to the top corner; free kicks are really becoming her trademark piece. The introduction of Keva Hynes to the backline was an instant injection of energy as she was on fire covering the left wing and deservedly received a cert for her fantastic defensive work. Saoirse Moran was introduced to centre midfield and instantly showed her fantastic work ethic and footwork as she supported the backline and fed the ball forward. The forward duo of Eabha Rohan and Rachel Gannon were fantastic in breaking the line and making their presence felt all day. Well done to Eabha Rohan on her first game back after injury. Orna McNama and Sina Schwitalla were introduced up front for the 2nd half and were forces to be reckoned with as they worked tirelessly to win balls and create chances for the team. Our girls worked tirelessly to the last second and unfortunately the scoreline doesn’t even remotely reflect the performance of the Colemanstown girls as both teams were well matched and it was a great game to watch. Well done to Ruth Murphy who stepped up to the task of goalkeeper when Nina needed to come off. She was fantastic and made fantastic saves in a position she had never played in before. Ruth also received her cert for her defensive work on the right wing and was a star from start to finish. Well done girls. Even though the score might suggest otherwise, it was a great game to watch. Ladies league game vs Corrib Celtic
Fielding with the bare 11, our ladies team braved all the elements and a fairly cut up pitch at home on Sunday when they squared up to kingpins Corrib Celtic in their latest league encounter. The ladies were up against it from the word go as the defence were very busy but Ciara Lally, Kate Delaney, Clare Keane and particularly Amy Kenny in her new centre back role played a stormer. The Annaghdown side never relinquished the stranglehold once they had it & enjoyed plenty of time in dominance. Debutants Jessica Doherty, Sarah Kearney & Leanne Devlin showed splendid leadership throughout urging on their colleagues time & time again. Ashley Roberts made some super saves in goal and the score might have been much different only for her heroics. Young Kate Williams & Isa Harun also showed they’re not afraid to get stuck in as they paired up well in midfield & tracked back to help out the defence when under pressure. Chloe Gill acted as lone striker but given Corrib Celtics dominance she didn’t really get to exploit much space up front. Jessica Doherty assisted Chloe in the 2nd half when the management duo of Philip Dee & Pat Delaney changed the formation to 4-4-2. The game ended 5-0 to a much stronger Corrib Celtic outfit.
U12s fire 10 past Colga ‘B’
Our U12 team were firing on all cylinders bright and early on Sunday morning when they put in a powerful display at home against Colga ‘B’ in their penultimate game before the Christmas recess. The entire squad thoroughly enjoyed this occasion as the game burst into life with goals early on. Goalkeeping, defending, tracking back, tackling, passing, finishing – every aspect of the girls game received perfect attention and execution as they dominated every sector of the field from the off. Goals from Chloe Flynn (4); Lily Kirby (3) & 1 apiece from Leah O’Connor, Róisín Keague & Róisín O’Dea helped the girls to a 10-1 win which propels them to mid table. Those who equate goals to entertainment must surely recognise that the girls enjoyed this game big time. Well done girls on a fantastic display.
