Colemanstown took both points in this Division One game played in Dunmore on Sunday last. This was Colemanstown United’s first time to defeat Dunmore in the competition. Earlier this season Dunmore won the first round of the of the Division One Cup on a 2-1 scoreline after Colemanstown had nearly all of the play. Dunmore started well in this game but were not able to break down the solid Colemanstown defence. United came close to scoring a few times and should have been two up at the break but somehow Dunmore kept them out. The first half ended scoreless.
After the break Dunmore introduced Conway to midfield and they began to put their game together. After 15 minutes they scored from a Byrne shot just inside the area. This lifted Colemanstown’s game and two minutes later they had the equaliser, following a goalmouth scramble. Mullins was now controlling the game for Colemanstown in midfield and they assumed complete control. They began to knock in the goals. Hynes made it 2-1 and then O’Flaherty and O’Grady added to Colemanstown’s tally to finish off any hopes that Dunmore had of a revival.
