Colemanstown advanced in the Connaught Cup with an enthusiastic 4-1 win over Mayo premier league outfit Swinford who had travelled to Colemanstown with great hope, but left empty handed after a superb performance from the home side. Alan Finn opened the scoring after a neat pass and move attack involving Richie Lally and John Keely. The better of the opening half chances fell to Colemanstown who led one nil at the break. Colemanstown who found themselves two up early in the second half after a cross from Conor Jackson was headed home by the impressive John Keely. Jackson scored the third after being played in by Kevin Barrett who in turn scored the fourth directly from a free kick from all of 25 yards. The backline of Jason Finn, Alan Walsh, Trevor Mullins and Ronan Geraghty were well on top for the entire game. Captain fantastic Ritchie “big snoz” Lally held a solid midfield along with Alan Finn and John Keely, while John O Brien, Johnny Lally and Kevin Barrett caused problems all day for the travelling side. Joe Flannery, Paddy Mullins and Chris Sheridan all joined the fray in the second half and had a say in the game.
