Our B team beat Kinvara in their recent league outing on Saturday with both goals coming from Damian Concannon. Many of the players were out again an hour later when they took on an old Colemanstown team of 1989 in a charity game for Cancer Care West. The ’89 team dusted off their boots weeks in advance and ordered a new blue kit in honour of the occasion, even though their jerseys may have been an XL size! Compliments to Kieran O Connor and his crew for organizing the event and coming up with such a novel idea. The game was a close intense encounter with the ‘B’ team scoring first thanks to a well taken penalty from Gearoid Rohan. The ‘89 team squandered some opportunities while Adrian Ward missed his chance to level matters when he failed to convert from the penalty spot. Eddie Concannon made no mistake soon afterwards when he cracked home another spot kick for the ‘89 team with 5 mins to go; it finished 1-1 and so to dreaded penalties where it was the brains behind the operation supremo Kieran O’Connor who spread himself well to stop a humdinger from his near neighbour Kerrill Lally. Gerry Connor converted the all important last penalty for the ’89 team and his celebratory jaunt with fellow teammates was well worth waiting around for. It was a great day and night and more importantly 4,200 E was raised for a very worthy cause.
