Our fourth game of the season was an away game against Salthill played on astroturf in Drom on Saturday. Once again we were short on numbers with only 13 squad players which seems to be the story so far this season. On a windy afternoon Colemanstown had wind advantage in the 1st half.
Salthill had the better of the first 25 minutes and with the ref allowing roll on roll off subs it suited Salthill as they had a much bigger squad. They created a number of chances mainly from long range and Tom Broderick in goal was at his best on numerous occasions.
As the game progressed, Colemanstown grew into it and also had a couple of half chances but failed to hit the target. On 38mins Shane Lally running down the left flank took a cracking shot which beat the keeper on his left hand side. Colemanstown maintained the lead until half time and went in 1-0 to the good. Salthill excelled from the restart and 8mins into the 2nd half they restored parity. They went ahead on 13mins and put Colemanstown on the back foot. Colemanstown didn’t give up though and had a few half attempts but nothing too troublesome for the Salthill keeper.
Salthill made it a tough hill to climb on 75mins when they scored again to make it 3-1. Colemanstown tried hard in their fight back but with only 2 subs it was difficult to get back into the game. The final nail came with 9mins left as they scored their 4th to put the game to bed. 4-1 it finished and if we had a bigger squad maybe this result could have been different.
The lads gave their heart & soul for 90 minutes. This B team don’t make excuses but until we have 17 or 18 players available for matches it’s going to be a struggle.
Squad: Tom Broderick, Brian Connolly, Mark Donnellan, Steven Broderick, Trevor Forde, Conor Booth, David Mullins, Paul Moore, Shane Lally, Ronan Skehill, Gearoid Fahy, Robert Cosgrove, Conor Moran.
