After what seems now like only the briefest summer, our A team opened their Div1 league campaign yesterday evening with a long trek out to Carraroe to take on MacDara. Although defeated 1-0, it certainly wasn’t from lack of effort from the entire squad who put in a massive shift but were left frustrated by their inefficiency in front of goal that probably cost them a least a share of the spoils in their opening league game.
The visitors dominated the game but they rued their missed chances as the hosts sat back and soaked up all the pressure. MacDara scored after 10mins; a strike from the edge of the box against the run of play which was pretty much their only real chance of the game. John O’Brien had a good first half effort while Colemanstown looked dangerous from crosses into the danger area which amounted to nothing. The 2nd half continued in the same vein as Colemanstown whipped in cross after cross but to no avail as MacDara’s custodian made a few fine stops. Colemanstown had good efforts from Ray Moran and John O’Brien and two penalty pleas which fell on deaf ears adding to the frustration. This 1-0 loss was a disappointing result as Colemanstown played all the football while MacDara sat back in their own half to defend their one goal lead.
The back three of Jayo Finn, Conor Jackson & Ronnie Geraghty were rock solid while Padraig Quirke, John O’Brien & Ray Moran worked tirelessly in the middle of the park.
Squad: John Gormally, Ronan Geraghty, Conor Jackson, Jayo Finn, Ronnie Geraghty, Jack Kennedy, Ray Moran, Padraig Quirke, John O’Brien, Alan Finn, Sean Walsh, Dylan Grady. Subs used: Stephen Burke & Lee Murphy; Mossy Carr, Shane Lally & Jarlath Healy.
The lads under the new management duo of David Gilligan & player / manager Ronnie Geraghty are out again on Wednesday next at 7.30pm against Moyne Villa in Headford. Please come along to support them. Football gets firmly underway next weekend as our U13’s, U15’s and ‘A’ team see football action.
