It was like a record-setting Sunday for the A team, thanks to their 8-0 drubbing of Loughrea at home today. Even reporter Mike Rafferty from Galway Bay FM & the Connaught Tribune thought he’d see a more competitive game given that Loughrea should have been buoyed up following their emphatic win over table toppers Salthill Devon last weekend. Yet they came to Colemanstown with the bare 11 and were slow out of the blocks. They had a man sent off 20mins into the first half as Colemanstown were 2-0 to the good and another Loughrea player had to retire early in the second half due to injury. The writing was on the wall as they played almost the entire second half with only 9 lads. The overworked Loughrea keeper still made a number of good saves while Ray Moran claimed a hat trick and a brace a piece from top scorer Tom Flan & Kerrill Hardy while Damo Wynne completed the rout just before the end. It was a fitting way to close out 2014; the next few weeks sees the Christmas recess as action resumes on January 11th in a clash of the titans as Colemanstown take on Salthill Devon at home. This clash will surely be far tougher than todays.
Meanwhile our B team lost 2-1 to a much superior Hibs side at home on Saturday. The margin of victory could have been more but in fairness our lads dug deep especially in the second half. Kerrill Lally got the Colemanstown goal towards the end to put a bit more gloss on the final score.
