Colemanstown U12A Girls 1- 5 Moyne Villa Connacht Cup
More than 500 supporters packed into Colemanstown to cheer on both our U12A & U12B Girls teams in their first competitive outings at home last weekend. First up were our A girls who were buzzing to get going. However, it was a strong Moyne Villa side who came to Colemanstown for this Connacht Cup opener and despite the best defensive efforts of Amy Morrissey, Kate Geary & Laoise Naughton, they found themselves 3-0 down with 15mins played as Niamh Lally & Lauryn Murphy up front were doing their best with some ball carrying towards goal. A little re-jig of the team saw Ciara Somers at centre back, Laura Hayes on the left wing & Sorcha Nic an Iomaire up front. Suddenly Colemanstown got back in on the action. Colemanstown clawed one back before the break as Sorcha provided the assist. Her sublime cross picked out Mia Corcoran who drilled home from close range.
In the 2nd half, Moyne Villa employed different tactics as Colemanstown found it difficult to break down their defensive game. They added 2 more goals which Lily Burke just couldn’t be faulted for as Colemanstown just couldn’t overwhelm them. Kayla Maloney, Siana O’Grady & Mia Corcoran did their best against top class opposition. Final score: Colemanstown 1 – 5 Moyne Villa.
Squad: Lily Burke, Amy Morrissey, Kate Geary, Laoise Naughton, Mia Corcoran, Kayla Maloney, Siana O’Grady, Niamh Lally, Lauryn Murphy, Ciara Somers, Laura Hayes, Sorcha Nic an Iomaire.
Colemanstown U12B Girls 3 – 2 Corrib Rangers Div2
Sunday was also a milestone day for our U12B Girls, most of them newbies. Not only did they win their first-ever league game against Corrib Rangers at home but they did it in a fantastic 5 goal tit-for-tat thriller thanks to a brace from debutant Julie Holohan & a strike from Erin Holmes. Julie Holohan & young Aislinn Murray led by example with their never say die attitude. Emily Tuohy made some super saves & Lauren O’Grady at left back was immense.
Both teams were equally matched until 17mins when Erin Holmes’ splendid strike from distance took a kind deflection on route to the net. Thanks primarily to Jade Devaney, Aoife Flynn & Eimear Flynn who got on the end of plenty of ball; this was a zestful and open-hearted opening half than was anticipated. 1-1 at half time.
The management team rotated players in a bid to ensure everyone got playing time. Julie Holohan put Colemanstown in front once more with a run from deep within her own half, cut through the middle and finished well. Once more the visitors came back to equalise but Julie Holohan claimed her brace with another super individual effort originated within her own half. At this stage Eimear Flynn drew lots of ooohs & aaaahs from the Colemanstown supporters with a perfectly timed tackle right under the stand. That passage of play looked dangerous only for Flynn’s timely tackle. Colemanstown showed greater fluidity as Erin Holmes, Aoife Flynn & Sorcha Nic an Iomaire rarely put a foot wrong. Aine & Aoibh Connolly, Holly Mellody & Grace Flynn also showed great willpower & their will to win was admirable too as the game petered out to finish. Colemanstown 3 – 2 Corrib Rangers.
Squad: Emily Tuohy, Lauren O’ Grady, Julie Holohan, Aislinn Murray, Jade Devaney, Aoife Flynn, Eimear Flynn, Erin Holmes, Aine Connolly, Aoibh Connolly, Holly Mellody & Grace Flynn
