Colemanstown Ladies team played superbly in the RDFL pre-season tournament at home yesterday evening to win 2-0 against Ballinasloe Town. From the outset the ladies took the game to their opponents and never let up. Lucy Kenny continued her probing streak from the last outing and was in search for more goals as she ran through the defence and was left unmarked for much of the game. Lucy had multiple chances but found the Ballinasloe keeper on top of her game as she pulled off save after save.
The Ballinasloe custodian was also equal to numerous long distance shots from Rachel O’Brien and Sarah Keane. Following numerous attacks Colemanstown finally made the breakthrough on 15mins from a Rachel O’Brien corner from the left swept nicely into the box which the Ballinasloe defender only half cleared; the ball fell to Issa Harun who picked out the top corner of the net. The match continued in the same vein with Colemanstown the far superior outfit until just before half time when the visitors caught Colemanstown off guard with a run through the middle and while three Ballinasloe ladies pierced the defence and in a moment of hesitation they couldn’t decide who would take the shot and Ashley Roberts was quick out of her penalty area to smother the ball well and avert the danger. 1-0 at half time.
The second half began in the same fast & furious pace for the Colemanstown ladies and the chances kept coming as Ballinasloe were pinned back for the entire half but yet Colemanstown couldn’t manage to get a shot on target. Efforts from Sinead McManus rolled just wide and further 2nd half chances from Rachel O’Brien and Sarah Keane just failed to find the target. Lucy Kenny was all alone on the left causing havoc but just couldn’t get an effort on target. The game went all the way to the 90th min before Colemanstown got their 2nd goal which originated in a delivery from Issa Harun which again was half cleared and this time fell kindly to Rachel O’Brien who was perfectly positioned straight in front of goal and she finished into the right bottom corner to make it 2-0 which better reflected Colemanstown’s dominance on the score board. The ladies played their hearts out and could have scored a bag full but were happy out to take a 2-0 win as were the management duo of Pat Delaney & Philip Dee. Match report by Philip Dee.
