Colemanstown ‘A’ 3 – Renmore 2
On Saturday Renmore were the visitors to Colemanstown as our A Team were aiming for a 4th straight win in a row. Renmore had played 3 games in 8 days and they were slow to get into the game. Thady Moran didn’t give them a chance to settle and after 9 mins hit a powerful strike from 25 yards to the back of the Renmore net. The Renmore keeper should really have done better though. A few minutes later Eoin “Savo” Kenny then followed up with a goal of his own after rounding the Renmore keeper and calmly slotting home. The defensive line of John Lally, Sean Hardiman, Jason Finn and Ronan Carr were steady at the back and couldn’t do anything about a lucky Renmore goal on 33 mins.
In the first half Alan Finn Junior was rarely troubled in goal but when he was called upon it was his usual reliable performance. Geordan Kenny and Kerrill Hardiman on the wings caused lots of trouble for the Renmore defence and Gary Lally was a constant threat with two efforts going very close. A Richie Lally free kick nearly found the net before the break but Colemanstown were happy to take a 2-1 lead at half-time.
Alan Finn and Tomas Flannery were introduced at half-time and it didn’t take long for another Colemanstown goal. Tomas Flannery netted on 65 mins after some dogged work by Richie Lally and Alan Finn. Renmore replied on 72 mins and the last 20 mins was a pure battle between two stubborn teams that gave it everything. Damien Wynne came on in defence and young Fiachra Garvey made his debut and they both put in excellent performances.
Colemanstown held out in the end and now sit top of the table. The lads go in search of 5 wins in a row on Friday night in Tuam v Tuam Celtic. This is going to be another tough battle. Having scored 15 goals in 4 games is an outstanding achievement for this exciting side but Friday night will be an even bigger test. Report by Gary Devaney
Colemanstown Ladies 2 – Cregmore 4
This game on Sunday afternoon was a good test for both teams. Cregmore, the visitors started the game the better of the two sides. Colemanstown gifted 2 early goals with two chances where the strikers easily slipped through our defense within the first 5mins and it was an uphill climb after that. The goals woke Colemanstown up though. The water break came at the right time as it gave the ladies a chance to re-group. They stamped their authority back on the game following the restart when they put a great passing move together originated by Alicia Flannery in midfield involving young Rachel Mellody who fired a great ball into the box where Teresa Loughnane pounced to finish to the bottom right corner. Both teams held out until the break with little opportunities created. Half Time 2-1
Cregmore started the 2nd half well but Colemnastown were boosted with the late arrival of Mary Walsh, Grace Bernotaite & Ciara Lally. Just before their introduction, Cregmore’s No. 9 struck for their deadly 3rd goal after she skipped by 3 defenders finishing low to the bottom right corner past a hapless Orla McCaffrey in goals. With a reshuffle of the team the late arrivals were introduced & Ashley Roberts assumed the keepers spot and with a 3-3-4 formation, Colemanstown’s ladies threw everything into the last 20mins where they showed furious intensity & fierce aggression. They were rewarded almost immediately when young Issa Harun pounced on a deflected clearance to finish well. After the water break, the ladies gave it their all as they pushed hard for the equaliser. With a gap in centre midfield, Cregmore broke through with a good passing move and whisked through for a splendid finish which deflated the Colemanstown fightback. 4-2 it finished to the visitors but the Colemanstown girls are learning well on every outing with a nice blend of youth & experience.
