U12 girls put 3 past their opponents yesterday morning. You can almost feel the game’s atmosphere in Zoe Kennedy’s match report below:
It was a wet and miserable morning that greeted both Colemanstown United & Knocknacarra U12 girls in Colemanstown yesterday morning for their second league outing but nothing was going to dampen the spirits of the Colemanstown girls who were looking for a second win! From the off both teams looked strong.
Knocknacarra had a number of chances where they got in close to the Colemanstown goal but the defence line of Aoife Hynes, Lucy Roberts and Aisling Ruane made light work of clearing the ball and were mostly untroubled in this first half. Eva Molloy, Shona Barrett, Ally Nutley and Della Griffin terrorised the Knocknacarra defence with their pace and crosses. Again Shona Barrett ran rings around the backs, with her fancy footwork, obviously making them too giddy to get the ball from her!
Libby Kennedy, Della Griffin and Eva Molloy showed great teamwork, between them keeping the ball in our half, crossing to and fro, constantly looking for chances to score. They peppered the Knocknacarra goal with shots aplenty, only for the ball to roll wide or be saved.
20 minutes in, saw our first goal as Libby Kennedy powered the ball forward and nipped it in before the goalie realised what was happening. The first half was fairly evenly matched with chances from both sides. Grace Mitchell, Ally Nutley and Annalise Doran in midfeld, all put in a lot of legwork between them and great tackles meant that Knocknacarra just weren’t able to keep hold of the ball for too long. The first half ended 1-0 up, to Colemanstown.
The second half saw Knocknacarra come out strong, determined for an equaliser. Lucy Roberts, Aisling Ruane and Rachel Kennedy were just as determined to keep the ball as far away from the Colemanstown goal as possible! Try as they might the Knocknacarra girls just couldn’t get the ball over the line. The reason for this can be summed up in 2 words. Honor Tuohy. She was indisputably on fire yesterday!!
10 minutes into the second half Della Griffin took possession of the ball from a Knocknacarra cross and dribbled it down the wing. A lovely pass to Shona Barrett and back again to Della ensured that the Knocknacarra defenders weren’t going to get it back! Spotting her chance, Della booted the ball in past another defender and the goalie. There was no saving that one!
Captain for the day, Grace Mitchell, had a magnificent run crossing to Eva Molloy for another chance on goal that unfortunately went just wide while Ally Nutley and Annalise Doran tackled their way through midfield, creating a number of chances for the Colemanstown strike force.
After a hard tackle, Annalise Doran was awarded a free. Without hesitation she launched the ball past every defender and the goalie to bring the score to a very impressive 3-0. The girls all put in an impressive performance. Final score Colemanstown 3 Knocknacarra 0
