Our O35’s took on Cam Celtic yesterday evening, Saturday, in Brideswell in a game that failed to ignite particularly in the first half as the game was played predominantly in the middle third. The game started off at slow pace with both teams feeling the effects of playing mid-week and in the aftermath of Mr. & Mrs. Curtin’s big day. Kerrill Lally, Gary Broderick, Adrian Burke & Barry Forde were looking for calpol before kick off in the form of Tequilla rose. Their failure to find some resulted in a lack of the booster they earnestly required.
Both teams were evenly matched throughout the 1st half with limited chances for both teams. Kevin Sayers pulled off two great saves and with excellent ball handling, Colemanstown’s veterans had a few half chances that fell to Paul O’Connor and Ronnie Geraghty but both failed to convert.
The 2nd half saw a somewhat revitalised Colemanstown side who played some great football with Andy Concannon on the left wing & Kenny Duane on the right disrupting any rhythmic movement created by the hosts. Although the wingers showed some excellent passing and runs down the wings, Colemanstown failed to get the final cross into the danger area.
Cam Celtic’s keeper made a great save from a Ger Grady shot which looked to be goalbound but there was no joy found. Following yet another great move down the wing Andy Concannon cut in across the box and was about to pull the trigger when he was taken down in the box but Colemanstown’s penalty pleas were waved away by the ref. With 5mins to go Colemanstown were unfortunate to see one of their defenders see red but at least he can have next Saturday off to go shopping with the wife. The game petered out in the last 7 mins with neither side creating anything meaningful as the game ended 0-0.
This was a tough, physical game while the scars of battle may have manifested themselves in bruises and sore bodies today but the ‘Calpol’ should provide the cure. O35s are away to Castlerea next Saturday with 7pm KO while all eyes will also be firmly fixed on the result of Ballinasloe Town vs Cam Celtic who also play next Saturday at the same time.
