Two out of three league wins to date for David Gilligan’s U14’s who travelled to Abbeyknockmoy to play neighbours St. Bernards yesterday as they won convincingly 3-0. Missing Ryan Noone, one of their spiritual leaders, through injury, Colemanstown were expecting a tough battle from their neighbours. However, Colemanstown were the better side for most of the game apart from the middle third of the 2nd half when St. Bernards pressed our defence well as Dara Hansberry, Luke Lally & Liam Molloy cleared their lines time and time again while Jason Connolly made some superb saves from all angles. The first real chance of the game fell to the home side on 21mins but fortunately for Colemanstown they hit the side net. Our first goal came on 25mins after Conor Byron disposed his player in defence, found Mark Donnellan who in turn sent in a long ball for Michael Flattery to run on to. Flattery’s pace did the work as he still managed to squeeze his effort inside the post as he was falling to the ground with the keeper off his line. Jason Connolly made a great save to keep the score at bay while Michael Flattery made it 2-0 not long before half time as he got on the end of a Conor Moran cross but still with a lot of work to do, he pulled the trigger at the right time to put Colemanstown in a 2-0 comfort zone at half time. Sean Hansberry converted from the penalty spot after he was upended in the box and the ref had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot; Hansberry himself duly stood over the spot kick and with such a powerful shot he blasted to the net, although the Bernard’s keeper did get his paw to it, it left him shaking his hand for minutes later to rid the sting! At this stage, Bernards came into the game but Conor Byron, Michael Ryan as well as our centre backs and keeper were in charge. Josh McGuire-Greaney also had a chance near the end to add to the scoreline but he fell at the inopportune time. Colemanstown seen out the remainder of the game to win 3-0 as this electrifying league performance suggests that Gilligan has found a panel with great shape and composure.
