A share of the spoils was today’s result for our U15’s after a tough league game in difficult underfoot conditions against a resilient neighbouring Kiltulla side. It was a game where both defences were on top as both teams managed to break the deadlock just once. Some excellent saves from Daniel Glynn kept Kiltulla at bay while Colemanstown played the more grassed wings to good effect sticking rigidly to the game plan devised by manager David Gilligan given the difficult conditions in the middle of the park. The game saw few chances for either side but it was Colemanstown who opened the scoring on 7mins when Adam Wynne capitalised on a good chance with a long shot from outside the box which went right across the keeper and into the bottom corner. For the remainder of the half our strikers were fed some great passes through the middle which created nothing but in the main found themselves under severe pressure but defended heroically thanks to Jason Keane, Josh Brennan, Ethan Lally and Robert Cosgrove. Thady Moran was introduced at half time and posed a great running threat at the Kiltulla defence. Early in the 2nd half Kiltulla stepped up the pressure but the half was only 4 mins old when they broke the deadlock with a ball over the top while their unmarked striker nipped in behind the defence to finish neatly from close range. Kiltulla maintained their momentum for the next 10mins or so but then Colemanstown crept more into it; albeit neither team created many scoring opportunities. Towards the end Kiltulla won a few consecutive corners but that important goal alluded them as Ethan Lally and Josh Brennan whipped out ball after ball sent into the danger area. 1-1 it finished and a great result for our lads. Mika Harun at midfield mounted alot of the attacking intent into Shane Burke, Keith Forde and Ian Geraghty. There was a hard lesson learned in this game. It can be tough towards the top while this game easily could have wounded these lads but in fairness they never showed panic, steadied themselves well and threw everything at the task in hand and fair play to them they got that well earned point. Next weekend sees the U15’s kick off the Divisional Cup against Salthill Devon in Drom at 2.30pm.
On another note, last years ladies winning double team will host their awards night in Burke’s lounge on Saturday next 11th February. A great night is planned, I’m sure as always it will be full of surprises!
