Colemanstown ‘A’ comfortably brushed aside the challenge of Mervue at home in the league this evening. Although they fielded a reshuffled team with Garry O’Grady in defence and Stephen ‘Squelchy’ Walsh up front both making their first competitive start for a while, they maintained their recent unbeaten form and had almost half the damage done by half time. Damo Wynne got things up and running on 20mins from the penalty spot after a foul in the box while Squelchy scored his 4th goal of the season not long before the break with a low right footed shot from close range after good work from Kegs. 2-0 at half time. Shortly after the restart young Paddy Mullins rose highest to a Kerrill Hardy cross and his powerful header was executed much the same as he did last Sunday. 10mins later Garry O’Grady marked his return and further strengthened Colemanstown’s grip on proceedings when he drilled home with his left foot after a corner from Alan Finn. Colemanstown continued to probe right to the end and Trevor Mullins was rewarded with his first goal of the season when he struck a lovely half volley with 15mins left on the clock. The Lally boys Richie & Gareth continued to anchor midfield yet again while Garry O’ Grady was rock steady on his return assisted by Alan Finn in defence. Colemanstown have now won 19 of their 22 competitive games this season and this latest win guarantees them premier league action next season. Well done to players and management alike as we look forward to the Connacht Cup quarter final next Sunday against neighbours Athenry at 5pm at home. A large turnout is expected in support of the lads.
