2015 soccer kicked off yesterday as Colemanstown ‘A’ progressed to Round 4 of the Connaught Cup after hammering an abject Dynamo Blues 5-0 at home. The Tuam side started with only 10 men but fulfilled their compliment of 11 players for the start of the second half. Colemanstown led after just 60 seconds thanks to Tom Flannery who volleyed home a corner which was first headed away but fell nicely for Flan to open the scoring. Flan & the 2 Hardys had a few more first half chances but were wide of the mark. 1-0 half time. The 2nd half started well for Colemanstown & Flan again added to the impetus of the game within 3 mins of the restart with a shot from distance which he drove to the keeper’s right after a good passage of play. Within minutes Sean Hardy scored his first goal of the season with a good effort from the edge of the box following some handsome dinky work involving himself & Tom Flan. Stephen Walsh added to the misery for the Tuam side with an overdue and precious goal for him. Johnny Lally completed the rout on the second time of asking after Sean Hardy’s first attempt at goal was saved but the keeper failed to hold onto the ball which spilled for Lally and the youngster fired past the keeper from inside the penalty area. Tom Flan came agonisingly close to completing his hat-trick in the second half when he ran onto a splendid ball over the top from Ray Moran but his effort flew narrowly wide. Stand-in keeper Sean Mannion had a quiet day as Dynamo Blues only had a couple of shots on target in the whole game. ‘A’ Team resume league action this weekend when they play East United in Castlepark on Sunday at 11am.
