Our A team provided a demonstration of their promotion credentials in this game which was a performance worthy of mention. Although Colemanstown were the superior team it took them 25 mins to really settle into this game. Conor Jackson was first to find the net in this goal feast. He initially connected chest high to control an Alan Finn corner and then had to lower himself to ensure a clean header. 5 mins later Jayo Finn got on the mark when a corner kick from the right fell nicely for him at the back post. Ronan Geraghty’s perfect free kick before half time ensured a 3-0 lead at the break. Knocknacarra also missed a penalty in the first half but one could say justice was done as it seemed a dubious decision in the first place. Immediately after the restart Tom Flan got his first goal of the season when he struck his free kick past the hapless keeper after a foul on Gareth Lally. Tom Flan got the fifth for Colemanstown soon afterwards when a ball swung in by Damo Wynne fell to Ronnie Geraghty who added an extra touch before Flan got on the end of it to tap in from close range. Knocknacarra seemed to get a momentary foothold on the game and scored 2 goals, the second a penalty which brought the game back to 5-2. A smart double save from Alan ‘Junior’ Finn kick started the rout again as Tom Flan scored a hat-trick when he dispossessed the shaky keeper to tap in from close range. Garry O’ Grady sealed the drubbing with a perfectly executed ‘free’ header from a Kerrill Hardy cross. It was a perfect start to the season on a day when Colemanstown were by far a class apart. Ray Moran was rock solid in midfield until he had to retire early due to injury. Left winger Alan Finn had a steady first half performance while Gary Lally’s display excelled and grew in confidence as the game progressed. Flan was always a threat up front & Jayo Finn organised the rearguard with great authority. There was a fitting end as Ollie Crowe took on his iced water challenge and nominated Kenny Daglish aka Gerry Moran, who was oblivious to all happenings, to take on the challenge. His other nominations were past players Colin O’ Grady, Dubai & Niall Rohan, Perth. At least these lads will have a bit more sunshine to brave the challenge. Reminder to all players, club members & supporters that our AGM takes place tomorrow night at 8.30pm in the clubhouse. Please make every effort to attend.
