‘A’ Team a step closer to top flight football

It may be 5 days since the ‘A’ teams last league game but match reports are better late than never…. The tenure of ‘A’ team manager Gerry Moran remained steadfast in this latest encounter as goals from Jason Finn & Stephen ‘Squelchy’ Walsh helped Colemanstown to a 2-0 victory over Corrib Rangers last Friday and so keep the Div1 league alive as the fight is on in earnest between Colemanstown & Corofin for the 2nd pole position and the honour of playing premier league football next season. In this game Tom Flan & Ray Moran had the better first half chances but both hit the woodwork. It was stalemate at the break and it took 20mins of 2nd half action before Colemanstown broke the deadlock. A left footed corner from Alan Finn found Jason Finn on the back post and his half volley from close range was unstoppable. Squelchy watered his mini goal drought with an exceptionally well taken goal thanks in the main to his tireless work and persistence. He won the ball off the defender and outran the defender for 40 yards and neatly dispatched the ball into the left corner. 2-0 it finished and was a truly deserving and well earned win for the boys in green. Ray Moran was his usual best in the middle of the park while Ritchie Lally for his tackling alone especially in this game, would fetch a 6 figure sum if Colemanstown make it to the Premier league next season. Damo Wynne did trojan tackling and running on the right wing while Jayo Finn was an anchor in the back line; like a lad possessed, planning to knock the Berlin wall by hand, in the way he had all his defenders organised. Stephen Walsh was man of the match, his tremendous pace allowed him to run past defenders with ease time and time again and he showed great ability to create space for himself. All in all, this was a tremendous result and roll on the next and final league game against table toppers Corrib Celtic on Tuesday night- a crunch tie and must win game in order to secure promotion to the Premier league. This could be worth millions to Colemanstown as well as all the prestige that goes with it!… There’s great excitement in the camp. One can just picture Gerry Moran’s pre-match team talk the next day…
