Our ladies travelled to Drom last Sunday to play their first league game vs Salthill Devon F.C. and not quite sure on what to expect of Salthill. The ladies got off to a slow start as Salthill put the Colemanstown defence under pressure early on and with new signed keeper Marian Murray having plenty to do it took a brilliant strike from the Salthill number 10 to beat Murray and put Salthill in front at an early stage in the game. This gave Colemanstown the wake up call they needed and from then on started to play with more fight and determination. It was clear even at this stage of the game that Colemanstown were by far the better side, the goals would come; it was only a matter of time. After the half time break Colemanstown really took control of the game. Following a corner kick there was a goal mouth scramble and striker Anna Grant got her toe to the ball to get it over the Salthill goal line. This seemed to relax Colemanstown and they began to play some nice flowing soccer. With Tessa Mullins making one of her trade mark runs she was brought down inside the penalty area which she then converted to the roof of the net to make it two goals to one. Colemanstown saw out the game at ease with Emma Roche, Sarah O’Connell, captain Orla McCaffrey and Deride Finn keeping a tight ship in defense. Shauna Ward worked tirelessly in midfield alongside Mullins. Sister’s Catherine and Trish Burke on the wings linked up well with our top two Ruth Dempsey and Anna Grant. It was a real team effort with Chloe Roche, Natasha Finn and Kara Mullins all contributing to the well deserved victory. Ladies play the Connacht cup quarter final vs Shiven Rovers next Sunday in Colemanstown at 4pm. Please come along to support the women on what should be a cracker of a game.
