Our ladies team are back training following their emphatic year in 2013 comfortably winning the Div 1 league title. Under the guidance yet again of the legendary Kara Mullins, they are currently acclimatising to life in the top flight as they play in the Premier league this season meeting top class opposition like Athlone side Bealnamulla & city side Corrib Rangers – the only 2 teams to beat them in League & Cup action last season. Luckily they have no casualties or long term injuries following last year’s campaign but two of their more experienced campaigners, namely full back Paula Kelly & keeper Cossie have decided to hang up their boots. Colemanstown only conceded 2 league goals last season; a testament to the defence & keeper and showing just how difficult these players will be to replace. There is also good news for manager Mullins with the welcome return of seasoned servant Deirdre O’Grady who I’m sure will focus fully on the challenge of scoring goals given she had no trouble finding the net in her former playing days. Another huge boost is the return of Carmel Flannery, who like many more of these ladies puts her heart and soul into every aspect of her game. The kick off date for the Premier league has yet to be confirmed by the Galway FA but is thought to be mid to late February. In the meantime the ladies continue training on Wednesdays at 7pm & Sunday mornings at 10am in preparation for the season ahead as we look forward to the same entertainment as they provided us with last year. All new players are more than welcome.
