A wonderful example of under 10’s soccer was provided in Corofin on Saturday by both Colemanstown & Corofin. Colemanstown fielded 2 teams thus ensuring that all the panel got a game as the managers ran the players on & off throughout the game. Although these games were ‘friendlies’ they oozed passion, enthusiasm & fire. Colemanstown’s pre-christmas training paid dividends as the games were played in a great atmosphere. The youngsters deserve great praise for their efforts in difficult underfoot conditions and inclement weather but they enjoyed every minute of it. Team A was managed by Eddie Concannon as his team outscored Corofin 5-1. Kelly Brennan was the star of the show as she displayed all the key skills including fancy footwork, tackling and a magnificent engine as she covered every inch of the pitch and scored 2 magnificent goals and also hit the woodwork. Thady Moran & Robert Hynes in midfield showed great determination and dominated for large parts scoring 3 goals between them (Thady Moran (2) & Robery Hynes (1)). Josh Brennan & Shane Burke were resolute in defence while Mika Harun up front was unlucky to have his goal disallowed. Michael Concannon, Aoibhinn Screene & Darragh Crowe continuously blocked & harassed Corofin ensuring Colemanstown’s dominance in the game. Jason Fahy in goals made a great contribution with some great saves until he switched with Josh Brennan to get a run outfield. Team B managed by Andy Concannon drew 4-4. This game was in the melting pot until injury time when Corofin finished strongest to earn a draw. In the dying seconds our backs, however, stood firm and strong to thwart any attempt of a Corofin winner. Conor Moran started in goal but hadn’t much to do early on until he moved outfield when he scored from a free kick and got more into the game. Darragh Hansberry & Thomas Belton were excellent in defence linking up well with Jason Keane & Stephen Laffey in midfield. Jason Keane showed great skill in taking his goal well while up front, the skillful Thomas Crowe and the blistering pace & fantastic skill of Eve Murray paid dividends as these two up front both contributed to the 4-4 scoreline. Clara Keane & Sinead Kennedy also played a major role when introduced. So for their first competitive game for so many of these youngsters they all played their part. A big thanks to Andy & Eddie Concannon for coaching & mentoring the lads and to all the parents who were there to support their youngsters and cheered on both teams. All the children left with smiles on their faces as a fun day was had by all. The key outcome is that the lads continue to develop their skills, get comfortable on the ball and develop their team spirit. Well done to all involved. Photos will be uploaded to our gallery in the next few days.
