Weekend Football Action U12B, U17 & U18Boys

U12B Boys Div 2:  Our U12B team headed to Moyne Villa on Monday evening for our eagerly awaited 3rd game of the league for this season.  It was our first game under lights and with a strong panel of 16 players all looking forward to the challenge.  From the outset all players were very tuned into the task in hand and applied a lot of pressure early on especially on the Moyne Villa kick outs. Numerous chances were created and despite some good saves and narrow misses the lads did not relent. Eventually we made the break through with some well worked passing and Dara Ryan finished to the net from close range. This was to be the start of the purple patch for Colmanstown and goals followed from Cathal Burns (2), Riley O’Donoghue, Patrick Collins and Conor Finnerty (2) leaving us with a healthy lead at half time.  We were also able to use the bench to full advantage during this peroid with James Vignoles, Dara Ryan, Senan Proulx, Oisin Kelly, Conor Finnerty, Iarla Thompson and Avey Mahon getting a well deserved rest, while introducing Eoghan Burke, Patrick Collins, James Flaherty, Igor Ziolek, Eugene Kelly, Daniel Kelly and Matthew Hansberry to ensure there was no drop in intensity.  At half time Cathal Burns and Riley O’Donoghue were given a rest after great work rate in the first half and Conor Finnerty and Oisin Kelly were re-introduced into midfield.  We continued the second half from where we left off the first half, but Moyne Villa also upped their intensity with the aid of the slight breeze.  They created some good chances with long balls but our defence held firm with Matthew Hansberry also making some important saves.  3 further goals followed through Dara Ryan, Cathal Burns and James Vignoles after they were re-introduced before Moyne Villa got their consolation goal when an unstoppable  long range effort found the top corner.  Overall it was a very strong panel performance with all 16 players doing their duties for the team. with a convincing win. We look forward to Mac Dara away on Sat 26th Oct and we hope to bring a full panel and the same intensity levels for another battle.  Match Report: Peter Kelly

U17 Boys Div1: St Bernards 4 – 1 Colemanstown.  This was a game of 2 halves with our lads looking dominant in the 1st half & a bad day at the office in the 2nd. Both sides started this league game in determined fashion in Athenry Astro on Friday evening.  We started extremely well & held onto the ball well with good attacking play & had a tasty series of short passing moves. Tyler Collins, Nathan Mannion, Josh Buckley & Cathal Keane were solid at the back creating super opportunities for our midfield trio & strike-force trio. Sean Cooke was forced into a top drawer save to keep the game at stalemate as he dived low to the right to knock the ball onto the post & out wide. Tommie Muldoon had a super effort with most of the team involved in the move some way or other which culminated in a super block by a Bernards defender. Finally Colemanstown broke the deadlock when they whipped the ball down the right wing which culminated in Ryan Gavin getting on the end of the move & he held his composure well to fire a low effort into the corner for his first ever goal for Colemanstown. Ronan Screene was introduced in the 1st half where he kept the ball moving on the wing. The early stages of the 2nd half saw both teams up & down the field seeking to add to the scoresheet. But it was St. Bernard’s who mastered the equaliser about 10mins after the restart with a good move down the wing. They added a 2nd soon after as Colemanstown were still recovering from the equaliser. Colemanstown were desperately trying to calm the nerves & had chances to add to their tally through Shane Quirke while numerous chances were smothered by Bernard’s resolute defence. Jamie Lally, Joshua McDonnell, Dylan King & Shane Dempsey looked lively when introduced in the 2nd half. Colemanstown were stretched to breaking point when Bernard’s scored their 3rd as Colemanstown just couldn’t penetrate Bernard’s solid defence. They pulled the trigger with a 4th late on to put the game beyond doubt.  Final score from Athenry: St Bernards 4 – 1 Colemanstown. Match report: Orla McCaffrey

Squad: Sean Cooke, Tyler Collins, Nathan Mannion, Josh Buckley, Cathal Keane, Adam Doyle, Matthew Keane, Tommie Muldoon, Eibhear Colleran, Shane Quirke, Ryan Gavin, Ronan Screene, Joshua McDonnell, Dylan King, Niall Grady, Jamie Lally.

U18Boys Championship: Kinvara 3 – 2 Colemanstown.  Both teams fielded depleted teams on Sunday in this latest away league encounter due to unavailable players in both ranks. The game started with only 1 sub for Colemanstown. The hosts were 2-0 up after 20mins as Colemanstown conceded 2 scrappy goals. A tactical tweak saw Colemanstown throw caution to the wind with a change of formation towards the end of the 2nd half. Colemanstown then settled more into the game. We pulled 1 back before half time as Josh Buckley was fouled & Aironas’ fine free kick flew past the keeper. The 2nd half was more evenly contested as Colemanstown pushed to reduce the deficit. Chances came & went for both sides. With 20mins left Colemanstown conceded again through an unfortunate OG.  The lads responded immediately though as the pacey Tiarnan Proulx raced into the box only to be fouled & the quality of Aironas’ resultant spot kick left the keeper with no chance. There were a few chances to secure a draw through Tiarnan Proulx & Cathal Kennedy but the ref blew for full time with the poor start costing Colemanstown dearly. In the end they didn’t have enough time to find a late equaliser that their second half performance may have deserved. Well done to Fionn Campbell who made his debut on the left wing.  Match report: Martina Donnellan

Squad: Tomas Rogerson, Tyler Collins, Ross Lally, Conor van Oosterhout, Ronan Screene, Donnacha Walsh, Josh McDonnell, Aironas Kantauskas, Tiarnan Proulx, Cathal Kennedy, Josh Buckley, Fionn Campbell.
