3 hattricks and a Cian Burke header helps Colemanstown U12s on their way
Our U12s maintained their winning league form with another fine away win this time over Barna Furbo played in the league yesterday. From the word go, Colemanstown warmed to the task ahead of them in an eye-catching performance. There were 3 hat-tricks on offer – each as special as the other- from Killy Hughes, Dylan Murphy & Patrick Flynn which helped in no small way to keep Colemanstown on their way. Jonah Donnellan hit the post within a minute of the game after a good build up involving David Walsh, Dylan Murphy & Niamh Kennedy. Colemanstown opened their account in the 2nd minute after Davy Walsh whipped in a corner and Killian Hughes’ powerful diving header almost burst the net. Dylan Murphy drew a great diving save as the keeper turned the ball around the post while the resultant corner was whipped in by Walsh and this time Cian Burke rose highest for an exquisite header to put Colemanstown well in the driving seat by the 4th minute. Colemanstown had a great passage of play which led to their 3rd goal as Cian Burke’s cross on the right found Killy Hughes lurking in the box and he side footed home Colemanstown’s 3rd. No. 4 came following a long range shot from Jonah Donnellan which deflected off the post and back into play where again Hughes was on hand for the easiest of finishes and claim his hattrick by the 16th minute.
Paddy Flynn was only just introduced when he scored No. 5 as he blasted to the net following some good passing from Dylan Murphy & Killy Hughes. Hughes capitalised on a poor kick out before finding Dylan Murphy who showed great footwork before slotting under the keeper’s legs. Fionn Flattery was called into action for the first time on 27mins as he drew a great save to turn the ball out for a corner. The ensuing corner was only half cleared by the Colemanstown rearguard and their striker penalised the sloppy defending by lashing the clearance to the net. Just before half time Paddy Flynn scored his 2nd as the ball deflected off the ref and kindly into his path where he throttled through on goal to score a good individual goal and make the score 7-1 at the break.
The 2nd half saw a totally different outfit tog for the boys in green as Ella Carroll, Cathal Hynes & Diarmuid Ryan were introduced as they continued to see the game out in style. Cathal Hynes sent in a long delivery for Dylan Murphy to latch on to and as the ball took a deflection off the near post, he found the far corner of the net on the 2nd time of asking 8mins after the restart. A minute later Dylan Murphy claimed his hattrick as he got on the end of another Cathal Hynes delivery, found himself one-on-one with the keeper before he calmly slotted past the keeper to claim his hattrick and Colemanstown’s 9th. At this stage Fionn Flattery was brought outfield to get in on the action as Jonah Donnellan took his place between the posts. Dylan Murphy found the net again but was adjudged to be offside but Paddy Flynn had the last say to score the 10th after a long throw from Jonah Donnellan fell nicely for Murphy & Cathal Hynes and between them they found Flynn who was loose on the fringe and made no mistake to score the 10th of the day and the third hattrick of the day.
Games are coming thick and fast now as the league campaign closes. The U12s play Craughwell away on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm and with just 1 game left to play against Merlin Woods a play-off against unbeaten Corrib Celtic is looking very likely.
