Weekend Wrap up

U13 Boys FAI Cup. Ballinasloe B 2 – 1 Colemanstown.  This SFAI Cup game played away on Saturday was probably not for the real football fanatics. Ballinasloe were much the stronger side with most of the possession all through. They created a hatful of chances but squandered many with just the minimum between the sides at the break with the hosts 1-0 up, having scored midway through the half. Yet Colemanstown soldiered on despite being second best. Ballinasloe were quickest out of the blocks in the 2nd half & scored straight from tip off to make it 2-0. Gradually Colemanstown settled into the pace of the game & were rewarded with a goal from Mark Shaughnessy – a sweet strike from just inside the box into the bottom left corner. With the goal came some confidence & Colemanstown applied some pressure after that but were unable to create any further clear cut chances as Ballinasloe deservedly advanced to Round 2 of the SFAI Cup. Match report: Martina Donnellan

Squad: Iarla Griffin, Adam Mitchell, Sean Forde, Marc Scarry, Daniel O’Dea, Oran Cosgrove, Kealan Murray, Ritchie O’Connor, Thomas Kennedy, Oisin Flannery, Tim Ruane, Tommy Gooney, Max Keating, Se Laffey, Mark Shaughnessy, Conor Saunders.

U17 Girls Championship. Colemanstown 1-3 Knocknacarra. Our U17 girls lined out at home against Knocknacarra in the U17 Championship on Sunday. Colemanstown’s girls knew this was going to be a tough encounter with a depleted young squad on the day. But the girls didn’t let that phase them. On 14 mins Annalise Doran gave a fantastic ball down the wing to Libby Kennedy who ran through to grab the opener. The girls were unlucky not to grow the lead with chance after chance but the Knocknacarra defence held strong. The back line of Megan Gooney, Ally Nutley, Chloe Manley and Annalise Doran made tackle after tackle to ensure they could keep the lead and it has to be noted how outstanding Lucy Butler was in goal leading the defence. It was a fantastic battle in the middle of the park also as Lucy Robert’s and Laoise Maybin showed fantastic strength and skill throughout. Unfortunately just before the break Knocknacarra grabbed the equaliser to make it a fair draw at the break in what was a very evenly matched half. The 2nd half started and immediately we had fantastic chances as Eimear Schwitalla and Rachel Kennedy raced down the wings and delivered fantastic quality deliveries into the box but our strikeforce of Honor Tuohy, Nicole Brennan and Clodagh Flynn were unlucky not to capitalise further. A slight positional change and the combination of Lucy Roberts and Libby Kennedy continued to threaten the Knocknacarra defence but the visitors fantastic defence were having none of it ! Knocknacarra grabbed 2 more goals in the 2nd half to make the game 3-1 in the end. An unfortunate result in what was a fantastic game of football for both sides. Well done to today’s player of the match Ally Nutley.  Match report: Laura Parker

U13 Girls Div1. Our U13 Girls were far too strong for Knocknacarra B at home on Sunday morning. A hatrick from Laura Hayes & one apiece from Sorcha Nic an Iomaire & Lauren O’Grady did the trick to win 5-1.

U15 Girls Championship. Our U15 Girls fielded with a depleted enough squad & found the going tough against Moyne Villa as they lost 4-1 to a more superior Headford side. Leah Hansberry scored for Colemanstown.
