U13 Girls Div1: Kiltullagh 1 – 0 Colemanstown. It seemed a bit like Groundhog Day for our U13 Girls as they took on neighbours Kiltullagh away with an early KO on Sunday morning. They were beaten by a single goal 1-0 in a tight contest all through. This game saw 2 set-pieces of note, one in either half. The first opportunity fell to Colemanstown in the first half when Kiltullaghs custodian pulled off a super save to deny Sorcha Nic an Iomaire from a near perfectly taken free kick. In the 2nd half a free kick awarded to Kiltullagh at the exact same spot, into the same goals, this time was struck low & hard, found the slightest little gap to hit the net. That was the difference between the sides. Colemanstown showed battling qualities as they pressed for an equaliser but in giving absolutely everything, they just couldn’t find the net as the hosts claimed the points in this Division 1 league opener. Squad: Lily Burke, Laoise Naughton, Amy Morrissey, Leah Corcoran, Lauryn Murphy, Kate Geary, Eimear Flynn, Sorcha Nic an Iomaire, Laura Hayes, Julie Holohan, Kayla Maloney, Lauren O’Grady, Siana O’Grady. U13 Boys Div2 Colemanstown 3-5 Craughwell. This was a rip roaring contest in Colemanstown in the Saturday morning heat. Colemanstown conceded early on but fought right back to equalise through Tim Ruane after a break from the back involving Sean Forde & Oisin Flannery which was ultimately finished with the right boot of Ruane. Colemanstown went 2-1 up following a foul on Thomas Kennedy & Ritchie O’Connor’s left footed effort sailed into the top corner to put Colemanstown in command. Craughwell restored parity before the break in a well worked goal following a good passage of possession football. 2-2 Half Time. U17 Boys. Colemanstown 0-5 Mervue SFAI Cup. Premier league kingpins Mervue Utd were the visitors to our Astro turf pitch on Saturday for this SFAI clash. It was the premier league team who were on the attack from the off, but Colemanstown defended resolutely with our defense and mids very strong. An early save from Sean Cooke set the tempo for the first half. Colemanstown’s good work from midfield sent our wingers off but Mervues big defenders took the sting out of most of our attacks. The best effort of the first half arrived through a free kick floated into the box by Conor Walsh but was ably dealt with by Mervue heads. On 20mins saw Jamie lally replaced by Joshua McDonnell. Mervue’s first goal arrived on 25 mins when a swinging cross from the wing into box was not dealt with & Mervue found the opener.
Half-time was used to take in much needed water and a bit of sugar (jaffas) for the lads on a very hot day. With sufficient time to regroup, Colemanstown held the premier league side for the first 15 mins of the restart. Colemanstown continued to maintain their shape with some nice play down the wings and in midfield. Tommie Muldoon and Dylan King were introduced up front but it was Mervue who pressed on & showed their dominance with a couple more goals to kill off the game. Squad: Sean Cooke, Cathal Keane, Conor Walsh, Nathan Mannion, Tyler Collins, Matthew Keane, Josh Buckley, Eibhear Colleran, Darren Moran, Jamie Lally, Adam Doyle, Dylan King, Tommie Muldoon, Joshua McDonnell.
