It was a straightforward weekend to cover, with Storm Berth wreaking havoc on all Saturday fixtures, leaving only two Sunday matches to report on.
U12 Girls Championship. Colemanstown 3- 2 Loughrea. Colemanstown welcomed Loughrea to a cold, wet & windy Colemanstown. Both teams started strong but the three amigos were on fire again with Ava Forde picking out Lauren O’Grady who in turn found Lucy Burke Hardiman who duly finished well to the bath of the net for the opener. Loughrea fought back though with 2 goals in quick succession. Ruby Lally had a glorious chance to peg back the scores when she got on the end of Lauren O’Grady’s pass but her effort was inches away from finding the net. We did however level matters shortly afterwards when the ever reliable Aislinn Murray’s defence splitting pass found Lucy Burke Hardiman & her final effort was struck with super confidence to even matters at 2-2 at the half way stage. Colemanstown restarted the 2nd half with a hatful of chances up front with some superb deliveries & through balls into the box from Holly Mellody but we were unable to find the net predominantly due to solid defending from Loughrea. It was looking like a share of the spoils until Ava Forde worked her usual magic on the wing, crossed to Lauren O’Grady who finished aplomb powerfully to the net for an astounding beautiful goal. The ref blew within seconds as O’Grady’s last minute winner elated her peers & the sideline fans in a way that only a last-minute winner can. Well done girls on a super performance! Match report: Anne Forde.
Thanks to Anne Forde on her first crack at a match report! The 1st of many we hope! She certainly captured the drama & the passion in this game.

U14 Girls Div 1: Colemanstown 6 – 0 Oughterard. Our U14 girls second league game of the season resulted in an emphatic 6-0 win at home against Oughterard on Sunday making it a long road back for the visitors. Colemanstown dominated from the off with a strong wind at their backs in the opening half. Captain Lucy Butler made a good call playing with the breeze in the first half as it died somewhat in the second. Colemanstown opened the scoring early on when Shauna McDonagh picked up the ball on the edge of the box, weaved her way past a number of defenders before she finished superbly to the keepers left. Maddie Rohan was in top form on the right wing & she turned provider for our 2nd on 20mins, when after displaying some lovely footwork she cut in from the right before slotting neatly past the keeper. It was noticeable in the first half how direct Colemanstown’s attack was thanks to great passing play from the midfield quartet Muireann Roche, Shauna McDonagh, Maddie Rohan & Leah Hansberry who between them picked up many loose balls & fed them straight into the front line of Emma Collins & Ailbhe Burke. 2-0 at the break. The 2nd half saw the introduction of Emily Rohan who made an immediate impact scoring our 3rd goal 5mins after the restart. Oughterard never really clicked into gear as the breeze faded in the 2nd half, no longer providing the subtle advantage while the visitors seemed to lose their rhythm. Our 4th goal arrived through Leah Hansberry as she picked up the ball on the left wing 20yards out, rounded her opponent before her superb finish. Shauna McDonagh finished off a great display by scoring her 2nd & Colemanstown’s 5th while Emily Rohan also claimed a brace when she capitalised on a poor Oughterard kick out & while spotting the keeper off her line, chipped into the back of the net in astute style to finish worthy 6-0 winners. Colemanstown displayed great energy & crisp passing for this game & are gathering momentum & have grown in confidence over the last couple of games. Lucy Butler wasn’t too busy in goals while Grace Connolly & Tia Loughnane mopped up everything at the back with Aoife Walsh & Niamh Naughton playing an important role too. Final score: 6-0 to Colemanstown. Match report: Niall Rohan
