Colemanstown United F.C as part of their continued fundraising efforts for an all weather pitch and the development of their facilities are going to host their 2nd Footgolf Tournament on the weekend of the 23rd to the 25th May. This follows on from the phenomenal success of our first ever Footgolf Tournament held in May 2013. This year’s event will be run over 3 days. Like last year a Footgolf course, similar in layout to a golf course, but with bigger holes to fit a football, will be set up in the field beside the soccer pitch across from Burkes Public House. Friday evening comprises mainly of a Team Event, run from 6 to 9pm, open to local clubs, businesses, factories etc to compete in a Three Ball Scramble. Registration for each team (maximum 3 people) will be €20. We will also facilitate any persons wishing to compete in the Singles Tournament on Friday evening who can not attend on Saturday as Saturday will mainly be a singles competition; again we will facilitate any teams on this day who are not able to compete on the Friday evening. Similar to golf, groups of 3 will play individual rounds with the winner completing the course in the least number of shots. In the singles competition there will be a men and women’s competition, prizes for longest drive (longest kick off the tee) and nearest the pin. Registration for the singles competition is €10 per person. For any adult who feels like getting dressed up in their best golf attire on the day there will be a prize for “Best Dressed Footgolf Enthusiast”. Prize giving for the Teams and Singles competitions will be on Saturday night, 24th May in Burke’s Lounge, Colemanstown, with entertainment and BBQ (all you can eat for €5). Sunday will be a family competition, run in the afternoon from 2 to 6 pm. This competition will involve families of four playing a four ball scramble over the course with the winning family being the one to complete the course in the least number of shots. Family Registration is €10 per Team. Prize giving for the Family Team Event will take place on the Footgolf Course after the last team returns to the starting point.
Most rules correspond with the rules in golf. The winners in all categories will be the Team/Individuals/Family Team who completes the course in the least number of shots. Like with any Golf Scramble the same rules will apply to the Footgolf Scramble, whether it is a 3 or 4 team scramble. For the scramble competitions, each player on the team tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players on the team play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. The team then records its score and maintains that format for all the holes on the course.
