Our B team game mid-week may have been a bit like Homer Simpson vs Popeye except there was much less to talk about as chances were at a minimum for both St. Bernards & Colemanstown B. Our neighbours and visitors went ahead 25mins in when they spilt the Colemanstown defence in a good passing movement and the exquisite finish left Tom Broderick with no chance in goal. However, our lads levelled matters immediately following the kick off as Mark Kirby sent in a hopeful shot which bounced over the keeper and young Jack Kennedy sprinted clear to latch onto the loose ball and head home the equaliser. Believe it or not, there were no other chances to either side as the game was played predominantly in the middle third of the field. Kerrill Lally had a chance near the end for a ‘smash and grab’ but his effort thundered off the crossbar. This game saw an unusually full bench to mark the B teams last couple of games of the season. Squad: Tom Broderick, Shane Lally, Mark Kirby, Adrian Burke, Gary Broderick, Ronan Skehill, Jack Kennedy, Kerrill Lally, Jason Burke, Niall Skehill, Steven Broderick, Gearoid Fahy, Martin Walsh. Second last game of the season for the B team is Dynamo Blues at home on Saturday next at 4pm KO.
Our U15’s were defeated at home in their last game of the season yesterday, finishing third in the table behind Kiltulla and Salthill Devon. With nothing to play for, our lads started off like a team that had enjoyed a massive helping of saucy chicken goujons before rather than after the game. Before they knew it, they were 3-0 down as Kinvara held the upper hand. Colemanstown pulled one back straight from the kick-off of Kinvara’s 3rd when Evan Waldron tipped off to Shane Loughrey and his massive effort from inside his own half eluded the keeper as it bounced over his head. Kinvara turned the screw again before half time to make it 4-1. Colemanstown re-commenced the 2nd half much stronger and looked a better outfit. 7mins in Shane Burke threw us a lifeline when he scored his 5th goal of the season as Luke Mitchell sent in a lovely cross into the 6 yard box which Burke ran onto and dispatched his effort to the left of the keeper. David Gilligan’s boys were unable to turn the tide after that as Kinvara finished stronger scoring their 5th to put the game well past our reach towards the end of the game. It was great to see Thady Moran back in action after losing out on a few games through convalescing from illness. Squad: Daniel Glynn, Brian Kelly, Jason Keane, Ethan Lally, Luke Mitchell, Thady Moran, Shane Loughrey, Mika Harun, Shane Burke, Ian Geraghty, Evan Waldron. With only 3 losses during the season, there is no doubt that these lads will progress next year once the squad stick together.
Our A team play Corrib Celtic in a crunch tie tomorrow evening in Annaghdown, KO 7.15pm. Support welcome to shout on the boys in green.
