Colemanstown finally succumbed to relegation with a 1-0 loss to Hibs at home on Sunday. We were far from outclassed or overshadowed on the day as we were all year as almost all our performances throughout the year held up as an indication of a team that are well worthy of top flight action. Again on Sunday, these lads showed plenty of spine and presented a good challenge in their bid to stay in premier league football. Colemanstown made a dream start earning a penalty which unfortunately was missed much to the gasps of the sizeable home crowd. Stephen Walsh also had a good first half chance but just couldn’t find the net as Colemanstown were well on top.
Hibs clawed their way back into the game at the start of the 2nd half. Colemanstown stepped it up a gear in search of goals but to no avail as Sean Walsh came close with 2 efforts. The visitors had their keeper to thank for keeping their 1 goal lead intact right up until the end as he pulled off some great saves to deny us the much needed goals. So in the end it is 1st division soccer for our A team next year. Putting it simply there wasn’t much between many of the teams this year. 6 of our A teams 13 losses in all competitions this year were lost by a solitary margin. That itself says alot. The gulf in quality between Colemanstown and many of their opponents all season was not as stark as one might think. But alas for now: its first division football but these boys will be back!
