Colemanstown advanced to Round 3 of the Connaught Cup with a fine display and a feast of goals from 5 different scorers to beat Mayo side Ballyglass in difficult conditions at home yesterday. Ronan Geraghty was first to get on the scoreboard on 15 mins when his well struck free kick was deflected off a defender to find the net. Ronan then conceeded a penalty from a hand ball and the resultant spot kick was well finished. Our 2nd goal came from a set piece 15mins before the break when Tom Flannery was fouled; Ronan Geraghty’s penalty was well saved but Kenny Duane showed his terrier like capabilities proving just what an asset he can be when he struck the rebounded attempt to the roof of the net. Colemanstown restarted the 2nd half with even more vigour playing a good passing game using the wings to good advantage. More effort reaped even more goals. Alan Finn was on the mark minutes into the 2nd half when he cut in from the left but while his initial shot took a deflection, the ball fell nicely for him to slot home No.3 with his right foot. Tom Flan scored the 4th on 65mins when he superbly won the ball off the Ballyglass defender on the edge of the box and slotted home from close range. It was all Colemanstown at this stage as they showed some crisp passing movement. Paddy Mullins turned the screw with 5mins left with a real poachers goal when the Ballyglass custodian spilled a high ball only for Mullins to capitalise and tap into an empty net. Gareth Lally was the highlight of the day in central midfield for his non-stop running and for winning the ball back time and time again. It was a good all round team performance as Colemanstown were almost camped in the Ballyglass half of the field and clearly meant business from the off. Final score 5-1
